  4. Grover Washington "Winelight" & "Just the Two of Us"
  5. Mr. French Seigfried Patato Valdez
  6. Great- thanks, Bertrand!
  7. At the site it mentioned this documentary would be "coming soon to DVD". Anyone know if this ever happened? I haven't found it anywhere.
  8. You remind me of a Basie Roulette that wasn't included in the Mosaics -- "String Along With Basie" (Roulette 500013, from '59/'60). It was 'kind' without being weak in any way. Can't be weak with Ben Webster on one of the sessions! Admittedly, it wasn't with the band, but it WAS a Basie record, and a darn good one, that to my knowledge has never been on CD. Or has it? Anyone here know? Amazon
  9. What did I miss? Why would we not be here without the moon? If we didn't have an unusually large natural satellite to stabilize us, the Earth's orbital inclination would wobble drastically. IOW, our axis of rotation would wander all over the place, sometimes tilting by as much as 90 degrees, and back again, unpredictably. The climate, consequently, would be a chaotic mess. In the unlikely event that humans managed to evolve under such conditions, there'd be no chance that civilization could develop. So getting hit by that Mars-sized hunk of junk four-plus billion years ago is the best thing that ever happened to us, in a certain sense. You know, it's really a wonder that we're here at all. Just amazing. It's good to remind ourselves of that fact every now and then.
  10. Jaws rules. Harold Jones, too.
  11. Happiest of Birthdays to you, my friend! Hope to see you around here a little more often!
  12. Didn't he play on the Tonight Show band for a while (with Branford)?
  13. Oh, right. I should have known that.
  14. Another Tolliver BN sideman appearance.....
  15. Happy Birthday, Brownie!
  16. Hal Crook's a monster. I have a trio recording under his name called Only Human that is very good. He's written a couple excellent improvisation books too.
  17. Happy Birthday, Matthew! Welcome to 52, it's not so bad.
  18. I like Jamal a lot- I've been enjoying the Mosaic box and other recordings, especially Chamber Music of the New Jazz. I saw the trio w/Idris Muhammad and James Cammack in concert a couple years ago and was thoroughly impressed by the swing, spontaneity and precision. I'm surprised by all the negativity here, but, as always, to each his/her own.
  19. I'm playing tomorrow night at one of our local jazz clubs with my friend and fellow trombonist John Fedchock and the FSU faculty trio. John & I were on the Woody Herman band together for many years starting in the 80s and really have fun playing together. The club is called B Sharp's and is run by Clarence Seay and his wife. Clarence is a bassist who has played with many people, including Billy Harper. Should be a fun night!
  20. Exactly the right amount.
  21. Nice to see you! Where you bin keepin yerself brother Joe?
  22. Yes, Elliot Mason is a freak of nature and has the trombone world all abuzz (he also plays bass trumpet on the recording). In his spare time he also plays in the LCJO. I've been enjoying this one too, GA.
