  1. With Hank Jones on piano!
  2. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the AccuJac. Inhibited by the boundaries of good taste perhaps?
  3. I think you made a good choice- I've been very happy with mine. I've had it for about two years.
  4. Wow, thanks for posting that, I hadn't revisited the blog since I first read it. Lots of light shed on the situation now. I understand the point of him keeping the apartment, that makes sense now. The sad part of the story is instead the apparent exploitation of the situation by the landlord and reporter. The great Hank Jones deserves better.
  5. Happy Birthday young fella. All the best to you and Ann.
  6. Do we really need another bluenote82? Seriously, I doubt he'd be interested. I think (as paps said) he's being youthfully rebellious (as one should be at that age)and I'd expect the last thing he wants to do is hear a bunch of old dudes tell him what to listen to. He needs to discover the music on his own terms.
  7. I do likes me some good grub (as much as the next bloke), but I'll take the Haute 5s & 7s, given a choice.
  8. What a wondeful story. His kindness towards others is indeed nice, but I'm not sure what to make of the isolation aspect of the story. It almost seems s little sad, but maybe it's what he wanted. Did he not have a house somewhere? I thought I remember Gene Lees writing about visiting him at his home.
  9. Listened to this today. Great music.
  10. There are some guys who have done/are doing some interesting things with electronics and trumpet- Cuong Vu, Erik Truffaz, Randy Brecker and of course Don Ellis, to name a few. Those guys can play the horn and aren't using electronics to hide crappy brass technique (like this guy). You can tell when he plays with the open horn sound that he's a weak brass player. That's all I need to know, for me that negates any preaching he wants to do. Pass.
  11. Wow, that is interesting. I did not know that.
  12. I believe it's his son Rene.
  13. A classy man and a great musician. Sad to see all the Jones brothers are gone now. RIP Hank.
  14. Anyone ever hide stuff in another section so you could come back later for it? I will admit to having done that a few times back in the day. My favorite hiding place was in smooth jazz- it would always be there when I'd return.
  15. Wow, that exact thing happened to me in college. But I digress....
  16. I will admit I do enjoy it. Although in an attempt to outdo himself each season, he will probably die soon.
  17. I'm thinking about who it would be cool to have as guests. How about a reunion of the 1964 Now's The Time band- Herbie, Ron Carter and Roy McCurdy? Lots of possibilities for guests.....hmmm.......
  18. Sounds like it will be a great night! I'll be curious to hear who the "guests" are.
  19. Frau Blucher! *whinny*
  20. I've really enjoyed participating on FB. I've hooked up with folks from the distant past (and as Moose said, that's about all the contact I need). I've never had any of the problems Chris is talking about- I was instructed by a friend how to do the preference settings when I joined (which basically consisted of unchecking everything but a couple options). I can't help but wonder if this is the source of Chris' problems. I don't share anything too personal or inappropriate for many reasons, not the least of which is that many of my students are there. I consider it a very public place so I keep things very general. So, all things considered, my experience has been very positive.
  21. A beautiful, talented lady. RIP.
  22. Hope there's nothing in the helmet.
