  1. Happy belated birthday, BB!
  2. It was a great run, and never say never- I can see some reunions in the future. Thanks and much love for all the friendship and music you guys have shared with us. I'm glad the board is going to continue.
  3. It varies, and it depends on the overall length of the gig and/or policy of the club how you divide it up, but in my experience 75 minutes or so seems to be fairly typical.
  4. Happy Birthday B! Sorry I'm late, hope it was a good one!
  5. Written by Howard Reich's great great grandfather?
  6. In dramatic fashion, no less!
  7. I see he has a "re-imagining Gershwin" side coming out in August. Hmmm........
  8. No phone, no pool, no pets. I ain't got no cigarettes.
  9. Hi Wes! So it took Supertramp to get you posting again?
  10. Wow, that's very sad. So sorry to hear about his passing. RIP.
  11. There's a little bit o' Jimmy in every bite.
  12. Walt & Joel Weiskopf Bill & John Allred Steve Stewart (great midwest-based trombonist) & Bill Stewart Jon & Kim Park
  13. In the 80s Woody's band did some jazz cruises on the SS Norway- they were produced by Hank O'Neal of Chiaroscouro Records. They were lots of fun- in addition to playing our own sets, we backed up players like Dizzy, Clark, Al Cohn, Jake Hanna, Cab Calloway, Joe Williams, Mel Torme and many others. It did provide an opportunity to spend time up close & personal with these artists (you should have seen Dizzy puttin' away the BBQ), plus we would hang with crew members who knew some great "insider" spots on the ship and in the various ports (away from the touristy stuff). A week or two was plenty, though- I don't think I could stand to work on a cruise ship. If you are an employee there are all sorts of rules to keep you separate from the passengers. I think this Mosaic cruise would be big fun, just a little too pricey for me.
  14. Got to love those Dusty Groove folks.
  15. That's a scary looking lineup! Wish I could hear them!
  16. I like that word. Dickish. Dickesque. Dickaciousness. Dickensian. Oh wait, that last one's real.
  17. Welcome to the board Tom Cat (a favorite Lee Morgan side of mine)! Lots of love for Tina Brooks here. Here's one thread, and if you use the search feature you'll find several additional threads. Tina Brooks
  18. No, he isn't. Ron Holloway is a lot younger than Red. Ron got his start playing with Gil Scott-Heron in the eighties. He's not bad, but he doesn't have a big enough sound for my taste. MG Ah, I see- Red is James Holloway.
  19. Sounded promising until the last name on the list. So Red Holloway is actually "Ron". Didn't know that.
