A fairly common name, but I wonder if that's the famous Chicago DJ who worked at WBEZ? -

Don't forget Donkey Serenade! (Horace even wrote it into "Quicksilver") Another popular quote. -
70s Fashion - What the Hell Were People Thinking

At various points in the 70s (mostly while in high school & college)I was guilty of wearing: -bell bottom pants -dashikis (required jazz band attire) -nehru jacket -leisure suits -various paisley items (I remember wearing a paisley tux to prom) Seemed like a good idea at the time. -
I have tinnitus too, mostly due to a lifetime of sitting in front of trumpet sections and next to drummers in big bands. I don't notice it until I'm in a quiet room, then it's very noticeable. If I ever got put in solitary confinement I'd probably go crazy. I sleep with a fan on (or some other ambient noise) so it doesn't bother me at night. Occupational hazard I guess. BTW, I've tried using earplugs when I play but I never could get used to playing with them. can you hear quiet passages or sounds clearly? Yes, my hearing is still very good. The ringing is noticeable only when it's completely silent.

I will always prefer the whistled version, but here are the lyrics. Fishin' hole

"Onionhead" was an interesting but strange film.

Bill Perkins. He continued to shed and learn new vocabulary until he died. He was not one to "rust on his laurels".

I like the films w/Christopher Guest and the ensemble cast that stars in them- great mix of scripted & improvised dialogue. Spinal Tap Waiting for Guffman Best In Show A Mighty Wind For Your Consideration

Tomorrow: pork shoulder smoking project. Should take about 12 hours (I'm going to start it at 5:00 AM). I'll be using hickory and apple wood chunks in the smoker and spritzing it with apple cider vinegar & apple juice. After pulling it there will be a choice of Gates or Arthur Bryant's sauce (the internet is our friend ). Since TS Debby has moved on it's gonna be hot (it's gonna be hot EVERYWHERE this weeknd!) but at least it will be sunny and dry.

What instrument are you talking about?

Sad news. I was a fan of many of her films, my favorite being "When Harry Met Sally". RIP

The Acme Company® - too big to fail. -
Well, it's all just opinion and I don't claim to be an expert. I have a lot of respect for your opinions as well my friend!

MCG is a "concert studio"- a recording studio with audience seating. It's a really nice space in which to play. There did seem to be an audience present- I could hear applause (in my headphones) after a couple solos, but not at the end of tunes, so there must have been some editing. GA, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree about the comparison to Gordon Goodwin. I don't hear any similarities between the two- to my ears Mintzer's harmonic/melodic/rhythmic content is much more interesting than GG's. GG's music to me sounds like a cartoon soundtrack- entertaining but not particularly substantial. He has some fantastic musicians in his band, but his writing doesn't do much for me. I definitely don't think Mintzer is borrowing from him (again, just my opinion). This isn't my favorite Mintzer side (although he did write a great arrangement of "For All We Know") but it still is infinitely more interesting to me than anything of GG. Just my opinion.

After going through security at the Milwaukee airport today there was a sign that said "Recombobulation Area" (for people to put shoes and belts back on, etc.). "Recombobulation"? I didn't even know that was a word, but it may have to become a tune title. -
And yes, there was a hat involved, but I still like the music a lot.

I've always hoped the Live at the Showboat recordings would be released on CD in their entirety. They were partially released on a Novus CD but much of the session wasn't included. IIRC it was originally a 2 LP set. Rights of Swing is another good one IMO.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that. Those Philly tenor players are pretty good. Ziggy Vines & Billy Root! Here's a link to an interview with biographer Nick Catalano who claims that the date is actually May 1955 (Clifford died on June 26,1956).
