  1. I don't know about you guys, but I sure could use more straight ahead jazz piano magic in my life.
  2. According to this site, it's Body & Soul. Go to "songs" at the top and it sends you to a list of songs which can be listed by title, year or rank. I'm not sure what their method/criteria was to establish the rankings (favorite, most played, most recorded etc.), but it's still interesting to see the results.
  3. One thing that's interesting about Sonny's birthday is that it's followed by Wilbur Ware's birthday tomorrow and Elvin's birthday the next day. The Vanguard trio, born September 7, 8 & 9!
  4. He was great in The Green Mile. What an amazing voice! I thought TGM was definitely one of the more successful adaptations of a Steven King story. Great film. So sorry he's gone, way too soon. RIP.
  5. I can't imagine who he might be emulating. If only there was a train coming. At least his fans will have the opportunity to catch come Zs.
  6. How was "My Father's Place" their club? For some reason I had the impression it was their club. It wasn't?
  7. I like the Blue Montreux sides and Heavy Metal Bebop. The studio Aristas are much more hit-and-miss IMO. A few great cuts scattered in with some real lame things. I love Randy's playing a lot, but I wish he wouldn't sing. A big turnoff for many will be the dated sound of the synths and mixes and such, but I grew up listening to the BB and can still enjoy it in spite of the dated aspects. Michael and Randy have some great solos throughout- I would have loved to hear the band live at their club (where they recorded HMBB). Definitely music "of its time".
  8. I thought Epistrophy was referring to this book, if it was his comment that Joel was asking about.
  9. There are several of these commercials. Quite clever!
  10. I've been pretty impressed with what I've heard thus far from Warren Wolf- how was the VV show?
  11. It was always swinging and inspiring, and there were always a lot of laughs. I was "McKeeski". Paul, you played with him a time or two, iirc. Memories?
  12. Sad news. Thank you, Vonski, for all the great music, and for being Vonski. RIP
  13. +1. Maybe my favorite ECM title.
  14. Here are a couple more I really like.
  15. Is that a different recording than the 2 CD set called "Twins'?
  16. Anyone see it? Amazing to watch! The NASA feed was way cool.
  17. Tell me more....
  18. Lon, Pops and Obama. Happy Birthday to all!
  19. I just received this from Amazon and am looking forward to checking it out.
