  1. Chiefs finally got rid of Larry Johnson. About friggin time! He's been a major pain for a long time. He may yet find some life in his career with another team (I feel bad for anyone playing for the Chiefs these days) but at least he's no longer KC's problem (they have plenty of other problems). And what's happening w/the Bears? They look awful. Geaux Saints!
  2. Hang in there, paps! You have a pretty decent support group here, and we're thinking good thoughts for you. Sorry for your pain, but glad you caught it before something worse happened.
  3. Scooby sax for Scooby snacks?
  4. And Two Bass Hit from the same.
  5. "Penned" by Richard Carpenter. Yeah, right.
  6. Actually, according to Facebook, Conn's birthday isn't until Tuesday. I thought I was the only one around here to have multiple birthdays....... I sense scandal.
  7. Thanks for the heads up, David. I have this on vinyl but have been wanting to get it on CD. Great price! And count me in as a fan of Mulligan's writing (as well as Tiny Kahn).
  8. Happy Birthday Paul!
  9. Happy Birthday Paul!
  10. Andrew D'Angelo has been dealing with a brain tumor, right? I'm hoping he's doing better- maybe the fact he's on this recording is an indicator. He's a great musician.
  11. Who the hell told you that?
  12. Who dat say they gonna beat dem Saints?
  13. I heard Wayne Escoffrey w/the Mingus big band last spring. He's a bad MF.
  14. Everybody make it OK?
  15. Happy 50th Rad! Don't sweat it- it didn't hurt all that much. You've done some very good work. Keep it coming!
  16. And much of the praise for this one should go to Sy Johnson, who orchestrated Mingus' wonderful ideas. Sy Johnson was Mingus' best arranger IMHO.
  17. OK, it's 2:00, but it's really 1:00, so I can stay up another hour, right? Wait.......I hear harp arpeggios......
  18. USC BEATDOWN! Holy crap! Trojans quacked under the pressure.
  19. Does anybody really care? If so I can't imagine why. We've all got time enough to dine.
  20. I will say he did a great job IMO singing the difficult melody to "Blood Count" on that Strayhorn special that was on PBS.
  21. Nice playlist Steve! Great to see some music from that great "Beginning & End" session. However, I think there is some confusion about the given recording date of this- from what I understand it wasn't recorded on the eve of his death after all. Maybe someone else here knows more about the details........
