  1. So, about the purple.....Tuesday Morning perhaps? Although some seem to embrace the whole purple thing...........
  2. Is kitty still of this world, and still in possession of his/her claws?
  3. Watching this now. It's very good so far, nice clips and interviews.
  4. I have some used vinyl that apparently once belonged to "Brutus". Looks like he was a DJ. I always wonder why these specific folks sold their collections- could be for a variety of reasons. It's all great stuff, so if you're out there, Brutus, thanks. Your records went to a good home. Speaking of the DJ thing, I envy the guys here who have radio shows. I always wanted to have a jazz radio show. My dad had one for awhile in the late 60s. That's actually where my interest in jazz began, I liked it even though I didn't have any idea of what was going on. A couple times he let me announce the time and temperature on-air, I remember that was such a cool thing.
  5. I probably would be the one wearing the red uniform as well. *sigh*
  6. An excellent session, and (as mentioned) much of the credit goes to Slide for his great arrangements. I really like what he did w/You Don't Know what Love Is. Don't hesitate to pick this one up! EDIT: Quite some time ago I transcribed Slide's solo on My Blues. It's a good one. All players play well on this one.
  7. It was OK, fairly typical dramatic orchestral stuff. There was some great low brass throughout (and especially during the end titles). I was glad they didn't use the previous themes- although they did use a version of the original TV theme over the closing credits.
  8. Don't get the red one- you'll be killed!
  9. Is that the prequel to Meat House?
  10. Just got back from seeing it. Very entertaining and lots of fun. Granted, there were a few spots where even I (with my minimal knowledge of science stuff) was thinking WTF? I don't want to mention anything now because it might spoil it for some. I caught that too, it was funny. All in all, :tup
  11. It seemed like we were about due for another cyber-pinata. Swing away, Merrill!
  12. Nice idea! Gary Foster is definitely an artist deserving wider recognition IMO.
  13. Yeah, the inversion explanation , although I feel the (guide tone) F# of the D7 is totally necessary to complete the chromatic ii-V sequence at that point (A-7/D7 Ab-7/Db7), which is the main attraction ("hook") of the tune IMO. An interesting and fairly functional variation. although a little odd IMO. This chord inversion thing relates to the appearance of the half-diminished chord- the initial representation of the half-diminished chord seems to be the minor 6, essentially an inversion of the former. G-6 = E-7(b5) I think Night in Tunisia is an example- it originally used the G-6 in place of the E-7(b5) which essentially created a iv-V7 cadence to the D minor.
  14. In my teaching experience, Mobley tunes tend to be popular with students. They're melodically and formally interesting and often have a few harmonic curve balls thrown in while remaining accessible. I agree, there are several that should be played more.
  15. Wow, that's different! I can see how you can rationalize the GbMA7 since the usual changes (Ab-7/Db7) imply that key center (although the Gb to C root motion is pretty dramatic), but I'm not sure how you'd explain the F6 as a substitute for the A-7/D7. It probably sounded OK w/the melody so it remained. Interesting how "personal" variations on standard chord progressions pop up every now & then.
  16. Just wondering, is his name pronounced "Tril-lia" or "Trig-lia'?
  17. Lil' Debbie Lil' Wayne Lil Armstrong
  18. Imagine the person on the next flight pulling that out of the seat pocket.
  19. That I understand, even with the missing L. And yes, Jay is a MF! BTW, I'm not disagreeing with the assessment in this particular case, I'm just curious about that term, having heard it used forever.
  20. Yeah, there's another Steve Davis who plays drums. Yes, I'm familiar with his work. What Marcello said. Oops, I now see what you meant, Skid. I thought you meant you hadn't heard of him. Also, what exactly is meant by "too white"? Is there "just enough white'"? Although I've never heard "white" used in descriptive praise, so one might assume any "white" is not good. Is there "too black", too? I do think I understand what is implied, and it is a commonly used critical term. I'm just not sure how to deal with/interpret it sometimes.
