    Pops

From the New York Daily News today!
  3. Arthur Blythe is scheduled to perform on July 11 at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Blythe concert
  4. The album is being discussed in another thread... Arthur Blythe 'Illusions' (Columbia) Cover photo by Duane Michals.
  5. Tuba player on 'Illusions' is Bob Stewart who plays beautifully as when he played with the Gil Evans Orchestra. Cover photo (back cover also) is by the great Duane Michals! Don't think Michals was commissioned to illustrate many cover albums.
  6. Not from 1967 (but 1978) but highly recommended:
  7. Goodbye A respected and respectable musician!
  8. The Andrew Hill Solo Select, disc 1 (disc 2 will be next...)
  9. Several years ago, I emailed Mosaic and suggested a Select out of those Monday Night albums. The reply was negative. There was no additional music available
  10. Love that album - mine has a different cover: The different cover is from a reissue! Yes, great record!
  11. Don Friedman 'Hot Knepper and Pepper (Progressive)
  12. Atlantic did not know how to handle McDuff and did not know wat to make of him... they even had him record Alexander's Ragtime Band
  13. Interview with Mose Allison Interesting interview... and also interesting to see the Fourth International surviving in the USA!
  14. Same here! But I have put a stop on vinyl buying, mainly for lack of space
  15. Old story. Very much doubt that the tenor saxophonist on the three tunes is Zoot Sims. Noal Cohen has interesting remarks on this January 1957 session on his Teddy Charles Discography.

    Nathan Davis

Nathan Davis did not make it big as a jazz musician in Paris or in Europe. He managed to make appearances in clubs and recorded several albums but none sold well. Heard him several times in Left Bank clubs (once with Larry Young on piano) in the mid-60s. Good musician as he was, he nonetheless remained essentially a figure on the periphery of the local jazz scene here.
  17. Martial Solal 'Son 66' (Columbia France) Cover photos by Jean-Pierre Leloir!
  18. From Oregon Music News... Oregon jazz treasure trove Part 1
  19. The Spanish label As Is is releasing this month a CD that couples 'Brubeck & Rushing' with the splendid 'Rushing Lullabies'
  20. Hope Lou Donaldson is doing fine... he has a rather extensive European tour lined up in January. His booking at the Paris New Morning on January 18 has just been cancelled. No specific reason given yet.
  21. This Lonehill release also includes previously unissued material from that concert with Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Navarro, Tommy Turk, Sonny Criss, Flip Philips, Hank Jones, etc... in addition to hard-to-find J.A.T.P. releases from the Carnegie Hall September 17, 1955 concert.
