  1. Your interview is indexed in the References section of the book
  2. Really hope there's nothing wrong with him! Surprised that his outstanding contribution to the Miles Davis Live at the 1963 Monterey Jazz Festival CD seems to have gone almost unnoticed!
  3. Mitch Miller stands next to Charlie Parker at the November 1949 recording date for Mercury - the first Parker with Strings session - along with Ray Brown and Buddy Rich!
  4. Don't think the 1979 film 'Jackie McLean on Mars' by documentary maker Ken Levis has been posted here before. It's available on the internet now. Here goes:
  5. I remember an article about Lyons in a 1965 or 1966 issue of Jazz Magazine, the French review. There also was an interview of him (by Bob Rusch) in the October 1978 of Cadence. I did praise Jimmy Lyons when he came to Paris with the Cecil Taylor Unit in 1966 I still have his autograph!
  6. Louis Hayes 'Variety is the Spice' (Gryphon) with Frank Strozier, Harold Mabern, Cecil McBee, etc...
  7. Story from The Guardian on the North Korea soccer team plight: Public mauling
  8. More writings by Robert Levin http://robertlevin.wordpress.com/
  9. Brownie could do this by editing his original post. Happy to oblige
  10. Al Jarreau is out of the hospital by now! The AP report.
  11. ... after finding his match in Juliette Greco
  12. Liked the Ronnie Mathews 'Prelude to a Kiss'. Waiting for that Walter Bishop, Frank Haynes, etc... Whenever you want, Chris! I remember visiting the WBAI studios back in 1967 (I have photos somewhere). Interesting visit.
  13. Dave Frishberg 'You're a Lucky Guy' (Concord) with Bob Brookmeyer and Al Cohn!
  14. Interesting article on singer Jeri Southern in the Lincoln Journal Star Jeri Southern remembered She was also one of Miles Davis' favorite singer.
  15. Woody Herman 'Early Autumn' (Verve, mono, blue label) an assemblage of sides recorded for the Mars label. Woody Herman sings on most tunes including the title one! Great band with - among others - Don Fagerquist, Carl Fontana and the great tenor sax section of Arno Marsh, Dick Hafer, Bill Perkins...
  16. Terribly sad news indeed! A really reliable drummer. Enjoyed his playing with Oscar Peterson and also on the Al Cohn Pizza Express album with the Don Harper and Denny Wright quartet.
  17. That Live in Rennes is really excellent. An introspective - at times - that proves to be highly inventive. He makes his audience feel comfortable. The recording is only marred by accompanists that fail to stimulate Harris. With one exception, the talks with the audience remain short and will not bother when relistening to the disc.

A forever young Martial Solal played a solo recital at the Arènes de Montmartre in Paris last week. My Funny Valentine
