  1. Not aware of this but then I'm not really interested in muzak work by Hampton and Clark Terry!
  2. Thanks, I have adjusted my eyeglasses
  3. Another very worthy trio date with George Wallington is the one he recorded for Vogue in Paris in September 1953 with Pierre Michelot and Jean-Louis Viale after he resigned fromthe Lionel Hampton orchestra during its European tour. It's available on this reissue from Vogue BMG:
  4. Amazon erred... the box is $39.98 now
  5. That Mullenium is a Columbia CD release from 1998. Produced by Michael Cuscuna.
  6. A good man is gone...
  7. The original LP's were on Roulette, not United Artists. It is unusual that Mosaic or Blue Note didn't issue these, but I guess Fresh Sounds beat them to the punch a long time ago. Oops, another case of too much Armagnac after lunch I have corrected my post!
  8. From MichiganLive... Collector nominated The photos and the music: Take me to the water
  9. Several years ago, I wrote to Mosaic to suggest a reissue of the two Roulette albums with any additional material available. The answer was noncommittal. Glad that Fresh Sound did reissue the two LPs. The first LP was title 'Monday Night at Birdland', the second one was titled 'Another Monday Night at Birdland'.
  10. I do not have the Lonehill reissues but I have the Fresh Sound 3CD set The Fabulous Gerry Mulligan Sextet'. A beautiful reissue which incorporates the full San Diego concert by the sextet and the sextet studio sessions, complete with the exceptions of several alternate takes ('Broadway', 'Demanton', 'Everything Happens to me' and 'The Lady is a Tramp') of their October 1955 session.
  11. You've got Mulligan pretty well covered! I would suggest adding the Mulligan quartet with Bob Brookmeyer Paris concerts from 1954 I also have a fondness for this Astor Piazzola-Mulligan collaboration:
  12. Kenny Dorham 'Jazz Contemporary' (Time) red label, mono.
  13. Add the compilation album 'Jazz in Transition' (TRLP-30) to the list, even if some of the tracks (Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra, Curtis Fuller-Pepper Adams) showed up on several CDs.
  14. I'm not really sure I want to read that book... from The Telegraph today.
  15. Steven, the thread originator, used to contribute to shows on that Radio Campus station. He hasn't shown up here for a long, long time
  16. Glad to see that one being reissued at long last!
  17. Extensive and informative article by David Hajdu on Fred Hersch in the New York Times Magazine section Sunday. The article is illustrated by photos including two from the great Lee Fiedlander.
  18. Chu Berry Columbia and Victor sessions, disc 5
  19. Jazz is in trouble all over the world... from the London Times website
  20. Oliver Nelson with Eric Dolphy 'Straight Ahead' (New Jazz, mono)
  21. I'm not religious by inclination, but were I, I'd do the same. This was in jest! I have to confess I am a strict non-believing jew! But I am open-minded and do visit quite a number of the splendid churches that can be admired throughout Spain
  22. The news hit me in the same way as a death in the family. Salinger has been a favorite writer since I read 'The Catcher in the Rye' in english when I was 16. My second book in english, after Mailer's 'The Naked and the Dead'. His other novellas and books followed. I really hope that new works will come out from whatever closets they are being kept.
  23. A friend of mine who is friend with Pujol asked him specifically about any possible affiliation. The answer was negative. I have no reason to doubt this. Most Fresh Sound reissues are produced with the knowledge - and agreement - of the musicians or their next of kins. Which is why the reissues often come with liner notes that include photos provided by those. The other reissues come within the legal copyright issues valid in the EU. The same cannot be said (with rare exceptions) about the other labels.
