  1. Stan Getz/Kenny Barron 'People Time' (Universal), disc 4 what a splendid box this is
  2. Another JSP box that can be highly recommended is the Jimmy Noone one! Awesome playing by Noone with Earl Hines shining on many tracks!
  3. I have said it before but that Polka Dots intro by Lester Young always brings tears in my eyes. Prez at his very best! Still cherish the original Verve LP.
  4. Fresh Sound also released a vinyl copy of Bob Keene's Andex album 'Solo for Seven' that featured Milt Bernhardt, Pepper Adams, Red Mitchell, Shelly Manne and others. Have that FS LP somewhere...
  5. You have already tasted some Johnny Dodds, try looking for some of the sessions he recorded under his name. They're available on Retrieval, Frog and other reissue labels. The Sidney Bechet box on JSP is highly recommended too! Also check the JSP boxes: early Ellingtons, Eddie Lang & Joe Venuti. Any of those will have you back on your feet in no time!
  6. He recorded several sessions in the '50s with some of the best West Coast musicians (Conrad Gozzo, Maynard Ferguson, Milt Bernhardt, Bill Holman, etc...). The sessions were reissued on this Americana CD: The above CD cover spells his name Bob Keane. He is Bob Keene on the version of the same CD I have, on the cover and liner notes. Good music!
  7. Julian Priester 'Keep Swingin'' (Riverside, blue label, mono) with Jimmy Heath, Tommy Flanagan, Sam Jones and Elvin Jones!
  8. I'ld second that. A very worthy anthology from Membran. Like most Membran anthologies it's not perfect but you can't beat the prize! From King Ubu: "Allen, this one's available - there was a 2CD Mosaic (which I don't have, alas)" It was a BN reissue. One CD, not 2!
  9. I already have those DETS on vinyl... the one release I am really waiting for is the Cotton Club broadcasts. Hope it will include hitherto unpublished material
  10. Let's not forget our feline friends... Track list: 1. Blue Moon Billie Holiday 2. On the Sunny Side of the Street Erroll Garner 3. Almost Like Being in Love Lester Young 4. 13. PM sent on several CDs!
  14. Hampton Hawes 'For Real' (Contemporary, mono) with Harold Land, Scott LaFaro and Frank Butler
  15. You mean there are crooks in the Jazz World Nautuliso seems to be a rather good one at that game! Watched his eBay items when they were up and rather marveled at the amount of rare albums he was offering for auction. Glad I was past my vinyl buying days when his LPs showed up! In any case the prices were way over my means
  16. Reserve not met
  17. Good luck chewy in your search for Mobley originals. Been down that road for a long time and did not find much. Just for your information, here is the current Mobley page on eBay!

    David Izenzon

Perry Robinson had interesting things to say about David Izenzon in his book 'The Traveler' The Traveler Go to page 140!
  19. Willie The Lion Smith & Jo Jones 'The Lion and the Tiger' (Jazz Odyssey)
  20. I would say: forget about BN original pressings. The Mobleys are way beyond any normal person's means. Instead I would concentrate on getting the Japanese King pressings now. Quality of the covers and the vinyls is - most of the time - just about as good as the BNs you can find. Those King LPs are still pretty accessible. And bound to be very expensive in a few years' time.
  21. Charles Aznavour who turned 85 this year has a new album out this week on Capitol. Recorded last May in Los Angeles. Aznavour is backed by the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra. Have not heard it yet. Jacky Terrasson is among the musicians featured on the album.
