  3. Oh yes! It's more fun than just watching them!
  4. Same here on the Gullin Collectables. Gave up trying to find the originals and settled on that reissue. Will live with it until I can get better copies!
  5. Jackie McLean 'Destination Out' (BN, mono)
  6. I'll just skip it if there is no new material
  7. Stuff Smith Complete Verve, disc 4
  8. Thanks for the links, Daniel! Very interesting sites
  9. 10. Another BN West Coast session from the Lion/Wolff era was the 'Best of the West' December 31, 1954 recordings that came out on two ten-inchers! Musicians included Conte Candoli, Harry Edison, Herb and Lorraine Geller, Budy Collette, Jimmy Giuffre. Leonard Feather also produced this date! The session was included in this Lonehill release:
  11. Jazz At The Philharmonic 'Lester Young Carnegie Blues' (Verve) the 1985 LP with plenty of then newly unearthed concerts performances!
  12. The original vinyl I have carries this line in the credits on the back cover: 'Produced for release by Michael Cuscuna'
  13. This was a BN session recorded on the West Coast under the supervision of Leonard Feather. Martin Banks, trumpet, Harold Land, tenor, Amos Trice, piano, Clarence Jones, bass (erroneously listed as playing drums on the original vinyl), Leon Pettis, drums. The session was recorded in LA on October 25, 1960 and left in the vaults until Michael Cuscuna released it in 1980 on th BN Classic rainbow label! Nice session!
  14. I was not drunk (believe me ) when I accidentally dropped that recently acquired original 'The Stratus Seekers', the George Russell Riverside years ago. It left a one-inch hole in the vinyl Kept the album but whenever I want to listen to the music I turn to the OJC reissue!
  15. Happy Birthday, Paul Know you will be listening to a lot of good music!
  16. Belated Happy Birthday Best wishes for the centennial year
  17. Austin Cromer is also one of the chanters on Art Blakey's 'Holidays for Skins' BN session! Never heard that Atlantic album.
  18. 'Borat' made a no. 1 debut at the box office. From an AP story:
  19. No sound trace of Fletcher Henderson playing the music of Sonny Blount has been unearthed so far. The Sun Ra book by Robert L. Campbell has nothing on this!
  20. Thanks for calling our attention to this reissue. Always liked Teagarden. But I have been appreciating Hackett in recent years only! The other collaborations from these two helped my belated recognition of Hackett!
  21. Charlie Mariano (Polydor, Japan) The Bethlehem quartet album with John Williams, Max Bennett and Mel Lewis
  22. My introduction to the Penguin Guide was nr. 7 which I bought when it came out after reading several recommendations. Did not find it very helpful and only return to it once in a while. Will skip vol. 8 even if it now has an index which was sadly missing from vol. 7.
  23. Don't think Mingus sued them. He even recorded two albums in 1970 on their America label Can't recall Jazz Anthology or any related label touching the Candid catalog.
  24. Don't buy stuff often from Internet but when I have done so, it went mostly via Caiman. Another happy customer here!
