  1. Looks like those players, all right! Too bad that missing from the photo - next to Gonsalves - was probably Wardell Gray who was the other tenorsax player with the Basie band at the time! Thanks for the link. A number of great photos there!
  2. A very nice obituary from a loving son! Thanks for posting it. My deepest condolences. Your father was really somebody!
  3. OK, might as well get my full count Can't remember how many posts disappeared from my account.
  4. From the Italian agency AGI.
  5. Happy Birthday down there
  6. Don Cherry 'Brown Rice' (Italian EMI) with Frank Lowe, Charlie Haden, Billy Higgins and others
  7. Ubu, that new release is unfortunately not part of the Jazz in Paris series. Would be easier to obtain. It is released in connection with the launching of the Bernard Peiffer website. Thanks for catching this. Was not aware of this welcome addition. Formidable, indeed!
  8. The liner notes to the Impulse vinyl has a graph identifying the microphones used for the various players. Charles Persip's drumming was captured with an Altec 650 while Elvin Jones had a Tele 40-KM over his kit. Oh yes, Persip was one hell of a drummer! And Ron Carter was listed on bass.
  9. Hope Alan will find time to refresh his listings. I need my daily dose of Jazzmatazz!
  10. No wonder I lost whatever interest I had in Pink Floyd when Syd Barrett deserted the group. Fron the London Sunday Times today.
  11. Horace Silver '6 Pieces of Silver' (BN 63rd Str.)
  12. Nostalgia-filled article in the Sunday Styles section of The New York Times today.
  13. Stumbled on this item from the North Jersey media group. The story came out earlier this week.
  14. Not much of a beer drinker but I like the taste of the Belgian cherry beer 'kriek'!
  15. I would not pay more than $20 for a single CD! Vinyl is another matter... Most valuable CD I have might be the rare Japanese double CD 'Blues for Aida' by Steve Lacy. Lacy signed the inside liner notes.
  16. ...I'ld be richer... and dumber!
  17. Eric Dolphy 'In Europe', vol. 2 (Prestige, blue label)
  18. VERY heavy-stock sleeve on the original Sonet vinyl I have. The deepgroove is about two centimeters away from the center. Back cover has liner notes in english by Erik Wiedemann. Uncredited cover photo shows only four of the musicians. J.C. Moses is out of the picture.
  19. Was away in southern France in a spot where not even mobile phone work and could not get an internet connection but managed to watch the WC games on a bad TV relay. Was very pleased at how the French team managed to come back from nowhere. Loved the way they managed to go past Spain, Brazil and Portugal! Quite a different team spirit from the original one which barely managed to get it together in the first round. Zidane showed his magic during those second round games and proved once more what a great soccer player he still is. He also showed his talent as a stretfighting man! Wished he had avoided this ugly display! France could have won that final with the Italian players obviously at the end of their ropes in the overtime. But win they did and they did not steal their victory. The two best teams were on hand for the final! Forza Italia!
  20. Happy Birthday, Agustin! I know I am a day late and can see you celebrated in a proper way... Wishing you many happy returns
  21. Billy Harper 'The Believer' (Baystate)
  22. One Whynot I also like is the Charles Sullivan session 'Re-entry' with René McLean, Kenny Barron, Buster Williams and Billy Hart. Not sure it came out on CD. This was one of a rare Sullivan-led albums. Excellent trumpet player!
  23. A Fall 1963 Prestige order form I have lists the following labels: - Prestige - New Jazz - Moodsville - Swingville - Tru-Sound - Tru-Sound Latin American series - Tru-Sound Gospel series - Prestige Folklore - Prestige International - Prestige International/Documentary series - Bluesville - Irish - Lively Arts - Near East Would love to listen to the Lively Arts 30006 LP! It's 'James Mason Reads the Imp of the Perverse and Other Stories by Edgar Allen Poe'! Wonder if RVG recorded that one!
  24. One for the history books! Awesome collective playing! So many great Argentine goals in two matches. The fifth one by Tevez against Serbia/Montenegro was a classic, too!
