I'm cool with February if Mike can't make it work.
-
I've only very recently considered a list of track possibilities. So if Mike drops out, I'd have to move quick which is a good thing, no obsessing over what to use and what to drop.
-
Mike I believe that Thom prefers a physical CD to MP3 files if you are using his site for hosting. So you shouldn't actually have to transfer to MP3 as long as you don't mind shipping the darn thing to the States. Having said that, I could slip in to Mike's spot if needed.

Thanks. I think I'll download the program and snag this in January when I am back at Mom's.
-
Does anyone know how large a program iTunes is? The reason I ask is that on satellite internet bandwidth is restricted and I have bumped up against my monthly allotment several times due to work. If its that big I'd rather download it at mom's - where the connection is much faster to boot.

New Gene Harris/Three Sounds Release - Resonance Records

They put together a nice youtube video about the release: I like to assume the lady at lower left is laughing at something Gene just played. -
HAPPY B-DAY!
-
My order was cancelled as not in stock within a day or two; I re-ordered thru Amazon immediately - while it showed as back-ordered. Just yesterday got a shipping update that indicated it should be shipping between the 19th and the 24th. So they have stock or expect sufficient stock to get my order out soon.

Well FWIW I am sure I read or was told that the artists backing Bumble Bee Slim (or some subset) held his musicianship in extremely low esteem.
-
Funny thing is, I'm not sure who's out of character here, Bumble Bee just does his thing so maybe its all five jazzers who are out of character in being on the record providing the backing.

Am I the only one who is much more interested in this than in Volume 1?

Holy shit the Red Sox got busy at the GM meetings. First they trade Travis Shaw for some righty set up man from the Brewers- and give Pablo Sandoval the starting spot at 3B, which is potentially disastrous. Also apparently means Koji is gone, and that saddens me. On the other hand they apparently won the Chris Sale sweepstakes, but gave up the number 1 prospect in the game, and their best starting pitching prospect too. That's high cost but at least Betts, JB Jr aren't going anywhere. And Sale is under team control for three years so its no rental. I guess I have to like that move though if Moncada and Kopech live up to the billing the White Sox got some big time talent back. And there are indications that they aren't in the market for a big bopper to replace Papi? Me no likey that. John Henry needs to open the check book for Encarnarcion.

Well I've jumped on the .com listing from that seller. <crosses fingers>. This would go pretty close to the top of the stack of unread books, especially since Porter is not, to my knowledge, a professor of sociology or any other high-falutin' field that would make for tough sledding in a book like this.* *Professor of Grease doesn't count.

I'm partial to the Zoot Sims release. And word of greater enthusiasm for the Dex leader date than Jim showed. But then I'm always partial to a pairing of Kenny Drew with any of my tenor heroes.
-
Keeping in the Black & Blue vein: Bill Doggett, "Anahuac Breakdown" from Am I Blue (Blues Reference) I was so glad to give this one a try on the off hand that David "Bubba" Brooks might be on it, and he is not only in the tenor chair for this outing but just happens to blow one of his best solos on this track.

Happy Birthday!!

Well I'd bet that's true since in the 70s he was recording for Pablo, not Columbia or Arista or wherever those goddawful Cedar Walton and Jackie Mac records came from.

No shipping notice yesterday so I checked Amazon and now it's "temporarily out of stock". So I guess my pre-order was too late? Or is it really January, since the Groove still has it for January 2017? Has anyone gotten a shipping notification? -
New Gene Harris/Three Sounds Release - Resonance Records
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in New Releases
Well I found this right away at the very first record store I tried yesterday. Yippeee! But I was on my way to Mom's so now I have to wait another day and a half or so before I can actually hear it. These recordings come from engineer/DJ Jim Wilke who hosted a weekly show originating from the Penthouse for about six years. While he was on site someone rolled tape back at the studio for him, and there must be many more coming down the pike from Resonance, as his contribution to the LP booklet refers to "this series of Resonance Records releases". Resonance is definitely giving Uptown a run for its money as best archival label. -
Got a chance to listen to this on the way to Naples to visit Mom. Great sound - which is fortunate because Ben skipped the sound check and wandered in to the club about five minutes before they hit. And I have to admit I was a little concerned when I read in the liners that the pianist (who is 90+ now) remembered that Noordijk, while a good player, was drunk, and that in the moment he was thinking "this guy is ruining our gig". And, I have to say I wondered if Noordijk would indulge his 'free' tendencies but he doesn't. Well he doesn't and Ben does sound engaged and energized. If you're anything more than a casual fan, you need this CD. It fits right in with any of Ben's best in Europe.

I am told that the sound on this is from the original tapes and way better than what has been floating around.
