So I was perusing the Lester Young Boston 1950 thread and when I checked it's Amazon page I noticed a number of Pres biographies available. Anyone care to recommend one or another? Thanks in advance!

I like Five Guys more than my wife does, as she prefers a custom-cooked burger to one that is cooked so thoroughly. (I do too, but I think its tasty enough to let it slide). I do like the fact that if you're buying for a group you can order fries for about half as many people and have plenty for everyone.

You are the one with the problem because you can't acknowledge that people can read those reports (based entirely or almost entirely on affidavits submitted by the prosecutor) and draw conclusions. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with my assertion that he's guilty as hell, because it doesn't remotely matter what I say. He will get his day in court and be convicted or acquitted by a jury of his peers. You act as if I am infringing on his constitutional rights and that's a serious problem if you actually believe that I am. You won't draw conclusions. I will. What the fuck does it matter?

And you're fucking problem is that no one is denying his day in court. Ted R summarized it very nicely. So, were you charged as an adult? Did you end up in juvie hall? Congratulations for adhering to the straight and narrow ever since.

Actually the evidence shows that brain trauma leads to self-destructive behavior, not murder.

Of course he is innocent until proven guilty. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: But given the evidence the prosecution has does anyone doubt his guilt? Do you?

The Times summary of the evidence. Yeah, its just a 'theory' he killed this guy. Probably not a particularly popular belief around here but IMHO, what sucks is that this POS psycho Gator can't get the death penalty for orchestrating the cold-blooded execution of a "friend".

I finally got a chance to stick my transfer in the car and I have to wonder what generation copy Kevin received. Hank is very present in the transfer I have and as noted, he really stretches out on most of these tracks. NHOP is not especially present though his solos are certainly 'right there'. If anything the only audio flaw I can identify is the wish that Kenny Drew was a little more present but even then I had no trouble listening to his solos while flying down I-95 at 70 MPH. Its really not hard to rate this sound a B+, but if you really want nice sound on a live Hank gig you'll have to track down the radio broadcast of the set with Johnny Griffin. That sound is top-notch. This sound is pretty darn close.

Hey Jim, you should figure out a way to incorporate that snippet of Soul Woman into the final recording and track it numero uno. What a great way to kick off the record, you alone on Big John's instrument then the band coming in. Or at least edit the performance that way for the DVD. Really looking forward to this ...

Shouldn't that be "BULL Shit Factor" behind the (alleged) trumpeter? Is it music? Sure, if music is supposed to be ugly and headache-inducing. But not in the world I prefer to live in.

Hank may have faded into oblivion due to medical and other issues but he didn't die young the way Morgan or even Green did. He was 56 when he died in 1986. Too soon, but not 'young'. I've been on a Mobley kick the past several weeks during my commuting, earlier in the year I listened to all of the 50s material and now most recently it was the 60s leader dates. Still don't have much use for Reach Out but if you've only heard one leader date I would go straight to Soul Station, Workout, Roll Call, No Room For Squares, and then all the rest for good measure.
