  1. Sorry I'm late, glad it was a Happy one.
  2. I know why I couldn't remember it's Plas on Something's Happening ... my copy was so beat to hell, I swear there are needle jumps that go straight over entire tenor sax solos.
  3. Gotcha. I was wondering if I hadn't realized that Griff is on one of the Paul Bryant-led dates that Fantasy/OJC never got around to issuing. I want to say its Clifford Scott or Red Holloway on those. I bet MG knows.
  4. Which one is that Mike? Is there another one with Paul Bryant other than Grab This?
  5. He wasn't a free agent Tim, the Sox traded Anthony Rizzo - now starting 1B for the Cubs - and a well-regarded minor league pitcher whose name escapes me for Gonzalez. I think the kid may have needed surgery but I could be wrong. Pretty sure he got a chance with San Diego but hasn't stuck in the majors yet. Then the Red Sox gave A-Gon all that money, believing he was going to be the cornerstone of the offense for years to come.
  6. I was thinking about that trade the other day. How did it work out for the Dodgers? Did those high-salaried guys they got from the Red Sox help them finish first? Adrian Gonzalez was his usual strong self; Crawford was hurt and mostly just OK and Beckett was terrible then lost to season-ending surgery. Gonzalez was the prize of the pick and Crawford is now officially an over-priced platoon outfielder with a ridiculous contract. Beckett if I am not mistaken is actually under contract for just one more year. If not it can't be longer than two more years. On the other hand, none of the prospects had an impact this season. If they turn out to be stars, and two of the pitchers are on the cusp of the majors, then it becomes a more uneven trade.
  7. I second that! Thanks!
  8. The first thing that came to mind last night was "eat your heart out Carl Crawford ya whiny ass bitch!"
  9. Damn.
  10. (wherever you are)
  11. There is only one Evil Empire and it lives in the Bronx. The Dodgers may or may not aspire to their own Empire of Evil but the concept that the Red Sox have done what the Yankees habitually did is exceptionally ignorant of reality. God willing, the Sox will shortly be champions again.
  12. Just going to pop into this thread to say I like our chances and I'll have a bottle of champagne chilling tonight in anticipation of World Championship #3 in the last 9 years. Not bad after 86 barren years prior.
  13. Late to the party but
  14. Why do I suspect this floats around the collectors/Dime community? If I'm wrong and I don't already have it, then I'm definitely looking forward to this ...
  15. MG, Not familiar with that book but I would say that it looks more narrowly focused than the one I am offering. Central Avenue Sounds covers the entire history of that area, from the earliest beginnings to the heyday to the end. And definitely focused entirely on the jazz side.
  16. My contribution to this thread is: I have a "like new" copy of Central Avenue Sounds - Jazz in Los Angeles an oral history with interviews of Clora Bryant, Buddy Collette, Horace Tapscott, Gerald Wilson, Marshall Royal, Art Farmer, Big Jay McNeely and others. I'll ship Media Mail to the first US resident who calls dibs.
  17. Thanks for the translation My pleasure - always trying to help out a non-native English speaker.
  18. Something interesting has happened this past week during my commute. I'd pulled all of my One For All recordings, discs I hadn't revisited in a long time - in addition to their Criss Cross and Sharp Nine releases, I have several Venus recordings too. Obviously I'm a fan - and I still am. But the reason I am posting is that, on more than one occasion, I actually found myself skipping ahead to the next track in the middle of an Eric Alexander solo. So my personal evolution, to date, on EA is: loved his playing, bought anything new by him; Realized I don't really need any more Eric Alexander recordings; Found myself moved to skip over his more, uh, up-tempo solos Suffice it to say I don't expect to be pulling out the EA leader dates to revisit anytime soon.
