Turns Out Male Antelopes Are Kinda Douchie
Dan Gould posted a topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
So, when the hot girl tries to leave, the guy does whatever he can to make her stay, then puts the moves on her. More here. -

Ebay/Paypal Dispute - What are my options
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Somehow I must be livin' right. Just a couple of days ago I was thinking about the fact that the post office hadn't delivered the box back to me, as per Paypal's "resolution" and was starting to wonder whether or not I could bring up a new claim based on not having the (worthless) merchandise not returned. So lo and behold I check my email and here's a message: So, all this person had to do was ship the box back and provide proof that she had done so to Paypal ... and she didn't. Did she have an attack of conscience? Did something happen in her personal life and this $70 claim became unimportant? Or maybe she found some old boyfriend who was able to muscle the thing into place and all of a sudden she had a usable plumbing fixture? I'm almost afraid to ask if she has any rights to reinstate the claim ... but in the meantime, I'm gettin' my money out of Paypal posthaste, and then I think I'm gonna do a little shopping! I don't pay enough attention to alternate takes...
Dan Gould replied to Shawn's topic in Miscellaneous Music
How about "I like 'em but don't love 'em"? -
They are royally fucked and don't stand a chance in hell. Which is why I am happy I never paid the $100 for MLB.TV and will be spending plenty of time doing other things rather than following a flawed team give tiny, doomed glimpses of hope they might make it to October. Here's my prediction: They never get higher than 5 games over .500, and they finish with 83 wins.

With, by his own acknowledgment, nothing to back it up. Having given up on defending himself anymore - or maybe just being an attention whore - he's trying to take other people down with him. He's the one who tested positive and was stripped of the "crowning achievement" of his life.

Creating a volume-equalized CD from flac files?
Dan Gould replied to neveronfriday's topic in Audio Talk
Goldwave has a fully functional demo version available for download at Goldwave.com Use Batch Processing in the File menu. Choose all of the files you want to burn (I assume they are in one folder). The first tab is "convert". Use this to convert FLAC files to wav (I think it will default to the right wav settings but you want 16 bit, signed, and check 44100 as the rate). Then go to the process tab. Choose "Add Effect". Expand your choices by clicking the box with the +. Click maximize volume, and choose either "full dynamic range" or 90% (I usually go with 90%). The folder tab sets where you want to save your converted and edited files, which should now be burnable to CD and have the same maximum volume levels. Just click "Begin" and Goldwave does it from there. I went through the directions from my current version of Goldwave; if its been updated substantially, things may be slightly different. But that's how I've dealt with the problem you have. Good luck. -
Now that we've heard about your collecting/buying habit, let's hear about how much time you spend with your music collection. I have to say my listening took a nose dive when I left my last office job. Before my last music sale, I'd have said that the listening I do is in the car, and its probably close to that again.

Lou Donalson on Argo/Cadet - How Much Is There...
Dan Gould replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
A double LP compilation. I got it originally because it was the first chance I had to hear any of the tracks with Grant Green. -
Thanks to John for clarifying the availability of these tracks. Now don't you know where that cover belongs? And thanks to Pete for the heads up on the Ben DVD - that looks very worthwhile.
-
Thanks Paul, that tends to confirm that these weren't issued in the Black Lion releases. Strangely enough the back of this LP has a box number in Reseda CA for the location of Vantage Records. And, this issue drops Kenny Drew as co-leader and calls it Ben Webster and his Quartet, In a Mellow Tone. So it looks like this was a later, US release of these recordings.

I am looking at Vantage Records LP 510 which says it was recorded in Denmark, March 4, 1965. Ben with Kenny Drew, NHOP and Alex Riel. Guess it doesn't say specifically the Montmartre but I am assuming that's the venue. However when I looked online, for the most part the tune titles and lengths don't match the music released on the various Black Lion recordings. So are they or aren't they, and what's up with Vantage Records? Tunes are: Pennies From Heaven Blues in B Flat My Romance In a Mellowtone How Long Has This Been Going On Sunday And I don't recall this on the Black Lion releases but there is a voice - I presume its Ben's - introducing each tune, but its in a very flat, almost post-recorded manner. Thanks for any help! Its a great record and I'm glad no one snapped it up.

Thanks, MG!

How Would You Describe Your Music Collecting
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
This is why I made it a multiple choice option poll. These aren't hard and fast, totally exclusive, gotta fit you to a "t" categories. -
All I know is that I will never understand how anyone can call that musical or pleasurable or any of the things that I associate with musical enjoyment.
-
Well they haven't continued on with more from the 1969 Newport Jazz Festival, but they have unearthed another Monk set: 1964 Monk Quartet with Rouse, Cranshaw and Riley
-
I would say the dabblers are the ones who come here telling us about the new Dave Koz or Kenny G or whoever. They think its jazz, they like it, but you can bet they don't collect smooth jazz in the way that we collect the real kind.

How Would You Describe Your Music Collecting
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
In all honesty I think when you're going for a thousand, there's no real marginal difference between #s 999, 1000 and 1001. Or for that matter, #800 and #1001. And he did say that there is no order or ranking. But I was pleased to see two Gene Harris dates in the first 150. -
free jazz album i got, is this a good one?

Yeah, but unless its 2 AM and the beer goggles are on, the good ones use a little more florid, romantic language, right? The rest are douchebags: -

I don't really have an opinion about Murray - which is to say whatever I've heard isn't appealing enough to want more, or to listen again) but isn't he the one whose ballad playing Larry Kart rather colorfully described? I've always wondered what it means to play a ballad as if you were yelling to the woman across the bar "I want to f*ck you." (I paraphrase here.) -
I don't know how easy it is to find but this LP was issued by Fantasy as part of a two-fer, Quartets and Orchestra. AMG review Not something I've returned to very often.

I was transferring Jug's Light, Bluesy and Moody Mercury LP and really enjoyed "Hold That Money". Anyone know who provides the vocal? Thanks, as always, in advance.
