It's completely idiotic in my opinion. And, given the cost of $2, had they chosen the 'cheaper' option but for being "lied" to, it's about .20 damages. Let's treble that and call it sixty cents. The plaintiff's bar sucks, they want nothing but to raid some deep pockets with the lawyers getting most of the money. That's the purpose.

Ahmad Jamal - Emerald City Nights: Live At The Penthouse
Dan Gould replied to mjzee's topic in New Releases
Clearly the agreement was between Wilkie and Zev as he doesn't seem to be putting these out on Resonance anymore. I wonder if he's even connected to the label nowadays. He's now got Jazz Detective plus he's worked with Cory Weeds on the Reel to Real label and of course some connection with BN. -
Display ad in the November NYC Jazz Record ... anyone with info about this one? "SCCD 36504" doesn't pull anything up on Google and nothing appears on Amazon that I can find. There is an entry in the Blakey Chronology page that indicates a private recording existing: – Flonercetret, Copenhagen, Denmark (February 1962) (private recording) [-TN, DM] Very interested to find out what the heck this is - and may we conclude, assuming they aren't trying to screw BN out of their rights, that Blakey's contract expired sometime very early in 1962? January 24 was the Africa Beat session, then we have this apparently new recording, and it was October of 1962 that Caravan was recorded for Riverside.

Thank you! I posted in the Jazz in Print subforum earlier today. The editor deleted a salient fact and added his own bad error (Oliver Jackson a pianist) but all in all a feather in my cap to be published and mostly to keep Percy France out in front of the jazz audience.

Back in June, the NYC Jazz Record, a free publication with approximately 23,000 monthly readers, solicited a "Lest We Forget" column for NYC native Percy France. My submission was selected from possibly dozens of others and the piece runs in the November issue, available online today and in print at clubs, record stores, music stores and academic music departments on Tuesday. I am beyond thrilled to share the word about Percy, not to mention as a non-writer, having my name on the byline for a significant jazz publication. This is the next best thing short of convincing the NYT to run an obit in their series of people overlooked at the time of their passing. (The published version had only one substantive change by the editor and it unfortunately introduced a glaring error: Oliver Jackson is identified as a pianist. Great thanks are owed to board members @clifford_thornton and @Ken Dryden for their help and advice when I was writing the piece.) New edit to say that the online version is corrected and my image updated (he figures he somehow thought of pianist Oliver Jones) and a correction will be issued in the December issue. http://nycjazzrecord.com/issues/tnycjr202211.pdf

!!! Taylor Swift Going For The A&M/CTI Look
Dan Gould replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Damn, I was really hoping she had tracks titled "Track One" etc etc. -
Thanks Chuck. I'd have been surprised if it had been Young instead.
-
I gotta figure out if I do or don't have the Arbee Stidham with King Curtis and John Wright (and verify who is right, the part of the back tray card that says John Wright - piano or the blurb that says its John Young). Either way that's a helluva typo.
-
So his teammates are just straight out lying, they know that he means "Who's your Daddy" and to keep that from getting out, they've agreed to tell the press that he thinks of his home runs as his babies and he's rocking their cradle. This is staggering in its ridiculousness. You think Gleyber didn't do anything terrible deserving retaliation, fine. But don't invent an alternative reality and pretend that you know what Naylor really means when he does that trot.

You are 100% wrong: https://www.mlb.com/news/josh-naylor-home-run-celebration-alds-game-4

Who knows but this was almost like an alternative reality where Dave Roberts doesn't get the stolen base and the Red Sox got swept out of the playoffs again, only the shoe is on the other foot. All things considered this WS is probably the best realistic outcome to come out of the LCS's. I have no desire for an Astros championship, whether cheating or not so I guess I am rooting for the Phils despite their 87 wins on the year. Do it for Schwarber.

San Francisco Jazz Festival archives. Some amazing stuff.

No idea how you are doing it Tom. Everything I opened up says stream only and right clicking on any link doesn't reveal a downloadable mp3 file. -

Thanks though streaming only is a tad disappointing. -
Of course I saw the initial celebration and also understand he's been doing it all year - his homers are "his babies". The only thing questionable about it was doing it when they were still trailing. If Cleveland fans criticized it should have been for cutting the deficit not taking the lead on the homer. I guarantee if it happened to the Yanks back when, Billy Martin would have ordered retaliation. I'd suggest he stay loose in the box in the future but like I said, Tito isn't known as that kind of manager.

+1, but I really hope that its the marketing effort giving the impression. The saxophonist seems young: https://gulfcoastsymphony.org/artists/aaron-west/ And ironically, the guy "playing" Miles was promoted by Arbors on his first CD (I included it in a BFT about three years ago probably) as having played in Satchmo-themed bands, I think on cruise ships where he had a steady gig for six years or so.
-
So my wife sent me a link to a Florida gig by a friend of hers (vocalist who is more cabaret than jazz AFAIC), and that led me to wonder about other "jazz gigs" in Fort Myers at this venue. And I found this first show curious to say the least: JAZZ AT THE MACC: MUSIC OF MILES DAVIS The Gulf Coast Jazz Collective opens it’s 3rd season with the music of one the (sic) Jazz world’s most important innovators – Miles Davis. Miles took part in almost every era of jazz including bebop, hard bop, cool jazz and fusion. As usual, the Collective will put their own twist on Miles’ music. That means high energy, excitement, and a ton of fun. The show features the phenomenal trumpeter James Suggs, who hails from St. Petersburg, Florida, to play the role of Miles. The show also features Tampa Bay saxophonist Aaron West in the roles of Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, and John Coltrane. (Italics added.) The role of Miles? A saxophonist to "play" Parker, Cannonball and Coltrane? For that matter, what about Wayne Shorter? Not adept at playing that "role"? Struck me as very odd yet sadly indicative of something. Maybe its only indicative of the kind of marketing that's required to make people reach for their wallets - name checking legends, even if they skipped one. I know calling it "the role of ..." ain't gonna make me want to go. So - curious what others may think.

Gleyber Torres would get a pitch or three way up and in starting in Spring Training or regular season 2023 but Tito is too much of a class act to order that after that punk ass move.
-
Funny when I saw it I didn't need to have any idea how it sounded ... Hank was enough to make it an automatic purchase.
-
I missed it a year ago but its never too late to start barfing over the idea of "virtual" duets on holiday classics by Nat Cole and a cast of no talents.

OK so how come when I click on the little image I get this? Is there something weird happening on my PC only? And can't they get the drummer name spelled correctly? It's not Gerryck King in reality? His discogs page shows he played with McDuff among many other fine players like Ray Brown, Red Holloway and Harold Ashby, plus Joe Williams. https://www.discogs.com/artist/430830-Gerryck-King?type=Credits&subtype=Instruments-Performance&filter_anv=0

Intriguing - but all those words and nothing about who was in the band? I have no idea who was playing with him back then but would be extra interested if it was someone on sax that I recognize.

Very nice, and turning 96 in just two weeks!
