  1. As you say, there is most definitely a cross-Atlantic divide on the word "cool": Used for the purposes of this thread, "cool" is best epitomized by this man: It has nothing to do with affectation, or being too hip for the audience.
  2. Lloyd Bridges Jeff Bridges Bridget Fonda Gidget Sally Field Sally Ride
  3. Not true. Dexter Gordon certainly comes across as a very warm personality, but his stage announcements and demeanor are the height of cool.
  4. Philly player. This is a nice one:
  5. FWIW, Lon, its one of the few Dex-with-Cables CDs I've retained. B-) And I know you like Cables more than I do Is there any indication that alternates or unissued material will be included in these?
  6. Trey Parker Trey Anastasio Anastacio Martinez
  7. Shaw, Dex and Silver are highly recommended.
  8. Carla Tortelli Carl Yazstremzki Carl Perkins
  9. I don't think its just the elderly who fall prey to the Nigerian scam, though one would hope that as long as it has been going on and as much attention is given to it, they'd be having a harder time finding the next sucker to scam. But then again, supposedly one is born every minute ...
  10. Then you have to be the only person in the world who hasn't previously gotten Nigerian Scam emails. Congratulations. Since they've got your email now, you can look forward to heart-rendering stories like the poor Queen who's been run out of her country and needs a gullible American to help her regain her fortune. Not to mention the corrupt beauracrats who have been double dipping funds from oil contracts into a separate account, but strangely enough need an American to help them get the money out of the country. You can pocket 30% of the net proceeds!!! Personally, I find the penis enlargement spam to be much more clever, even if they prey on slightly different male fantasies: big bucks v. big dick.
  11. How exactly are they "getting" clever? This is a standard Nigerian email, cousin to the "My Father, the dead oil minister" version, and I must have gotten it for the first time at least five years ago. Its not new, its not different, and they're certainly not getting clever.
  12. No offense friends, but should this not be restricted to personal expierence. Stage presence has to be witnessed first hand. I disagree, because I never saw Dexter Gordon in person but I've listened to his stage announcements on a countless number of recordings and seen brief videotape of him, and I think its fair to base my judgement on that exposure.
  13. This page has details on all of the Stitt and Marr recordings for Wingate:
  14. According to this, its the same tune but Stitt and Marr do not play together: http://funky16corners.tripod.com/9_organgrooves.htm
  15. Really? I tried a google search and a gemm search and nothing fell out yet. What was your search term?
  16. And I just found this interesting Wingate listing:
  17. Just found one of the Stitts, but not the one with Marr. http://www.estoreuk.net/northernsoul/listings/77.html
  18. I'm on it! Do ya think "Hank's Groove" and "Stitt's Groove" are the same tunes?
  19. Yeah, its Wingate 012 that the dealer has. Do you know if its straight organ or with a tenor? As far as King/Federal goes, I was only aware of the Club 502, Greasy Spoon, and Sounds from the Marr-Ket Place albums, it sounds like they grabbed another tune from another King LP for the Federal 45. Thanks for the help, Mike.
  20. Two questions, if anyone can help: I've found a 45 on Wingate records - would this be the same Hank Marr who recorded for King and later for Doubletime? There's also a Marr 45 on Federal, which I understand was a King subsidiary. Is it safe to assume that Federal 45s were edits of his King hits like Greasy Spoon? The strange thing is that the flip side is "I Can't Go On" which I don't think appears on any of the three King LPs ... Thanks!
  21. Neil Armstrong Lance Armstrong Lon Armstrong
  22. Isn't Hank Crawford still around?
  23. No kids here either, but I hear that for a certain length of time, you can try spelling out certain key words in order to keep the conversation secret. Or does that work better with dogs? (Has the dog been O-U-T yet?)
  24. Of course. And what a sloppy game going on in the Bronx today. A-Rod throws a sure double-play ball into right field, and Pavano gives up a three run and a two run homer, 5-0 Mariners. Then Moyer loads the bases with nobody out and by the time the inning was over, it was 5-5.
  25. Thanks all (I like Keiko, and easier to pronounce, too) (and Alice was my first suggestion, Aggie) but unfortunately, I just got back from a second visit to the shelter to see how the two would get along. First visit was pretty good - she was very friendly to him, although it was weird because for the first time ever, he actually acted indifferent to another dog. But they seemed to get along pretty well, no growling or anything, so that's why we were planning to do the adoption, pending one more visit. Well, this time, things did not go well. It was as if something finally clicked in his neutered brain, and he said, "hey! We got us a female here. I'm gonna give her some lovin'!" and she really, really did not appreciate that. Guys, how often has that happened ... you misread the signs, you think you're gonna get some, and before you know it, you're headin home all by your lonesome. None of this with one of these and you're left like this So, now its back to the original plan: Keep an eye out for a Weimaraner puppy. He's already shown that he likes puppies, I'm sure he would do fine raising it and it would be no threat to his position as alpha dog. And I've already got a name picked out, ever since I decided a long time ago that I wanted a Weimaraner: old "Blood and Iron" himself, Otto Von Bismarck. Could use "Otto" or "Bismarck". I think its the perfect name for a German breed.
