He is absolutely legit and trustworthy. You can email about his archives, they are extensive to say the least.

I can vouch for the person who sourced this incredible rarity - and he is hoping to spark interest in his other rarities, radio source and video. He's also Ukrainian so if that makes you more interested ... Sergey - sterh86@gmail.com.

Thank you - didn't expect it that fast.
-
Wow - your copy of the Montmartre tapes must be way lower generation than what I received 20+ years ago. FWIW he doesn't stretch out like what was captured back when, this is about a seven minute rendition of "Summertime" and verified not included on those recordings.
-
The video from which these frames are taken should be uploaded sometime in the coming days (I gave my word that I would not do anything to distribute before it is uploaded to youtube, sorry). I can say its most likely March-April 1968 at the Montmartre (from which three CDs of an audience recording have been known to exist for 20+ years) and its the same group, Kenny Drew, NHOP and Tootie Heath. I'll post when the video goes live. Edit to say, scroll down to EKE's post, he caught the vid faster than I did. More here: https://postimg.cc/gallery/RNQ2tz8 About the only thing disappointing is that only one tune is captured. But whoever wondered after seeing Hank stroll down the street in slow mo whether a video would appear of him playing, well - it's coming.

Oh I have had that one for a while and always enjoyed it. The full show of Red and Dex on TV before an appreciative audience is something deserving of release but I guess that infamous label couldn't find a copy to source from.
-
Thank you - I was thinking of that gray market release. Turns out the one Red Rodney track was taken from a 34 minute TV broadcast.
-
Can anyone help confirm if Red Rodney and Dexter recorded together in the mid-1970s? Discogs is not helping yet I have this feeling they did a record together, one guesting for the other? Wish Steeplechase had a decent website like Criss Cross. Thanks as always in advance.

Bourne's own summary of his life: https://www.wbgo.org/wbgo/2022-01-07/shards-of-a-jazz-life-by-michael-bourne Gotta love this pull quote: Toots often recorded harmonica solos on already-produced tracks of new albums. He didn’t call these gigs "soloing." He called these gigs "peeing." One day in New York when we were headed to lunch, Toots asked "Do you mind if I stop at a studio and pee on Vanessa Williams?" And he did.

Sorry to hear that David.

My top 5 Blue Notes
Dan Gould replied to CJ Shearn's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
I hope "Kenny" was meant to cover Kenny Drew also because he is an integral part of the success of that album. IMO. -
Percy France would have turned 94 today, August 15. Here are some fresh tunes from the Gaskin Papers first some Ellingtonia And next the Two-Tenor Boogie play "I Would do Anything For You" - Percy solos second and really tears it up.

"Out Of The Shadows: Percy France"
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
Wow somehow I had 1925 stuck in my head but you are correct (and the site was never wrong so its all on me). Thank you David for honoring Percy (again). The show is terrific especially the archived version which runs long and doesn't fade out on "Early Bird". -
I am amazed David Ortiz looks to be in better shape, today, than Ken Griffey Jr. There's only a six year difference in ages. If you missed the field of dreams pre-game here are some photos. His dad looks no worse than Junior. https://www.google.com/search?q=ken+griffey+junior+field+of+dreams&sxsrf=ALiCzsZmnx5pVhFh4wdzqQemFh3JA4z7Iw:1660309804350&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjMt-uAsMH5AhVwZjABHbApABQQ_AUoA3oECAEQBQ&biw=1229&bih=603&dpr=1.56

I wouldn't waste time going thru Wikipedia randomly correcting entries, but I do have an interest in getting Percy France the attention he deserves and traffic to the website. A wiki entry can help so of course I am going to want to make sure that his entry is accurate.
-
Well a tad bored at work so I googled Percy France and jazz and discovered that in June, someone started up a Percy France page which is stuck in "review" status. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Percy_France This is not bad overall, and with a link or two to the site so that is good. But I am going to have to correct some things in there too.

Where are you going on holiday this year?
Dan Gould replied to Pim's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
We don't do vacations ... having horses and now a dog and a cat mean that someone has to be here if the other has to go somewhere. The closest I get is taking a Friday off for a monthly drive to Naples (FL) to visit my mother in her assisted-living facility, but usually that ends up being a half-day on Friday. The closest she gets is the less regular trip to south Florida to visit her family - maybe twice a year. -
Blakey's Groups/Records or Roach's Group/Records
Dan Gould replied to Rabshakeh's topic in Miscellaneous Music
The moment I read your post there was no question whatsoever that it was meant in jest/facetious, however you want to call it. How else could anyone interpret "universally acclaimed 10-part documentaries"? The post wasn't poorly worded ... -
Blakey's Groups/Records or Roach's Group/Records
Dan Gould replied to Rabshakeh's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Irony is taking a beating. (And for the record It's Blakey every day of the week except for the day that I get into the 50s Mercury recordings and/or the Brown-Roach.) -
He posts on Facebook to drive traffic to his site: https://www.facebook.com/gordon.skene/posts/pfbid0cNPo9NPFzTt6Fve1WAjL96UK5w6WADzTSDAZMHo7uSfBg4jTZ7fNJhY7e9kUYxTml He also has this email: gordonskene@aol.com where he invites those who want to license things he has no rights to license to go ahead and contact him. I'm sure the rates are reasonable. I posted on his FB entry above: You stole the words accompanying this post from MY website, www.percyfrance.info. You don't even have the integrity to identify that you stole Phil Schaap's words about Percy France (or that you stole the Oliver Jackson profile from AllMusic). On top of which you repeat AllMusic's typo at the end of the Oliver Jackson bio you lifted. As for the music, I'll let the lawyers address your rights, or lack thereof. Of course he can easily remove my post but he knows he is on my radar.

Thanks very much, I am thinking very carefully about how I react to this, for the following reasons. 1. I had this concert uploaded to Dime. He's invented details about the rest of it. It was a test of sorts, to gauge interest at least. 2. He has stolen from the memorial web page, extensively quoting from a transcript of Phil Schaap's biographical sketch during the Memorial broadcast on WKCR, without attribution either of Schaap or the site. Quite frankly right now I am pissed and inclined to demand a take down as he is not the rights holder. (And its remarkable that he has a page inviting people to contact him for licensing of his recordings which I will pretty much guarantee he holds no rights whatsoever for any of it.

And the Red Sox big transaction is taking on an historically bad contract for a total mediocrity named Eric Hosmer. This former Rays GM doesn't have a g-damn clue, and anyone who thought that Alex Cora is some special manager, gimme a break on that too. Oh, and don't forget, they got Tommy Pham and his .694 OPS. Playoffs, here we come! Where anything can happen and usually does!! Fuckin'

Track 15 appears at the top of the player.
