  1. My only possible contribution to a drum thread: How can you tell the drum riser is even? Drool coming out of both sides of his mouth.
  2. Yeah, TCB ... they've put out two CDs by Tina Brooks brother, David. I have "Smooth Sailing", never found the second one. Its good.
  3. Well, the thing is, we don't know how often "warnings" were sent previously. I know I never received one. We also don't know what will get you a warning either. A "babe" posting that gets a little too close to porn? Personal insults laced with profanity? What about plain personal insults without profanity? I responded to Jerry's post in the GDP thread, "you aren't too bright, are you?" Does that deserve a warning? I was more direct with something Mark said, as I expressed shock and amazement that he breathes and walks and talks without functioning brain cells ... does that deserve a warning? It all depends on who gets warnings for what. But we don't know that, Jim's just declared that warnings will now be issued. To me, it clearly indicates that they plan to keep a tighter leash on things. And for better or worse, that's a change, IMO.
  4. I voted "never tried Sweet Potato Pie". In my folk's house, it was always sweet potatos as a side dish, never as pie-but if Mom ever made it with pumpkin instead, I'd damn sure know the difference! Unfortunately for me, pumpkin won't be in my future very often, since my wife is quite allergic to it. I could live without it, except that one of my favorite cakes is a pumpkin/Chocolate chip cake that dear old Mom used to make.
  5. I was a afraid of that. I do have the cover but I'd have to reduce it before I might be able to post it (or send it to you)
  6. I must say that I am surprised by this new implementation. I think it really cuts against the grain of the board previously, in which generally anything went (Jim's clear devotion to free speech) until and unless things got out of hand, at which point warnings were given prior to having membership revoked. Now, it seems as though you guys intend to be "policing" a lot more; very much of a school-marm-ish way: "OK, that's enough-you've got your first warning, mister! One more, and you'll get a time out!!" This is a major change, and its obvious that its been predicated by DEEP's arrival and the resulting brou-ha-ha. I do think its unfortunate because I think that it marks a very strong break with the previous ethos of the board. Make no mistake though-I will certainly keep the new system in mind. I don't intend to get any "black marks" at any point, but frankly, that would best be ensured by putting myself on the "don't display the Political threads" list.
  7. Just thought of one that would be very conducive but enormously time consuming. Have you seen the cover of Benny Golson's Pick a Number From One to Ten? It shows a rotary dial phone with each of the numbers displaying the musicians on that cut. So, you could show the dial spinning from each location, and as it comes back, that number's players pops in. Would be way cool, but I don't expect you to actually do it, John!
  8. I'm almost certain Blue was gone by 1979.
  9. A third nomination of The Composer, and don't forget his other Astor Place release, Roots. Also very nice.
  10. Of course you are right, I was just going by what the New York Times columnist wrote. Didn't notice his byline ... Jayson Blair.
  11. Indeed! Gobble Gobble to all participants in the festive day.
  12. OK, how exactly did DEEP start posting as Larry Kart?
  13. :g (except I think its everybody to get from street) (remember, they're trying to get people away so they can sneak by)
  14. Well, I know its going to be the Cowboys/Dolphins game in the late afternoon, but otherwise, we need to dig into the pile of Netflix DVDs, probably watch a classic spoof of the Cold War era, The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming!.
  15. Very good my friend, and thank you for not incorporating James T. Cat!
  16. Does anyone know the full poem that was shortened to "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain"? Here it is, by Gerry Hern, Boston Post sports editor: First we'll use Spahn, then we'll use Sain. Then an off day, followed by rain. Back will come Spahn, followed by Sain, And followed, we hope, by two days of rain.
  17. YES! Hop Scotch Suey hasn't proven himself a major leaguer, especially after that horrific collision, so trading one-for-one for Lee is awesome for the Cubbies. I think you'll see Lee hit a lot of homers in Wrigley, his defense is excellent, and for a tall guy, he motors around the bases awfully well.
  18. Spahn very good at the plate-I believe he has the record for homers by a lefty pitcher-35 or something like that. And in 1958 he became the only pitcher to have a 20 win season (22) and a .300 average (.333). And don't forget, with all of those complete games, he wasn't lifted for a pinch hitter very often!
  19. David, the last thing you said. Considering that the Sox are on the hook to Manny for huge bucks, why not upgrade and get a "good citizen" and intelligent ballplayer if you're going to pay huge dollars either way? And BTW, Nomar has been rumored to be on the way out for a while. Getting A-Rod would hasten the inevitable, in my opinion. And much as I love the guy, I'd love to see someone who doesn't always fly out when there's runners on the corner and two outs and he hacks at the first pitch, every single damn time. The fact is, the Red Sox will have to field a different team this year or certainly in 2005, with Pedro, Nomar, Varitek, Lowe and Nixon all up for free agency. Signing Pedro or Nomar may mean no money for the lesser of those three (but almost equally important players, IMO) so maybe its time to make a big move. One thing you can be sure of, Yankee fans ... this team and its ownership will be like the Terminator-always moving forward, always trying to beat you guys. They are obsessed, you're right about that, but I for one am glad. And with the Yankees in inevitable transition, I kind of likes our chances, sooner or later. Philly, Good analysis of Manny/A-Rod. Nomar goes home to California if it happens. Don't forget that a trade, if its worthwhile to both teams, has to include a chance for Nomar to sign long-term, should he want to.
  20. Since you're speaking of Colonel Mustard, he clearly falls in the category of "A Coalition of Warmongers Intent On Making Sure We Defend Against Communism in Vietnam (The Oliver Stone Scenario)"
  21. Dan Gould

    Donald Byrd

I think its unanimous. Get it! Unless you're going to go for the Mosaic ...
  22. HEY! If you're 20, I'm 19!!! Seriously!
  23. What Maren said. Shooting a high powered rifle that close to a house .... unbelievable.
  24. And "Forensic Files" on Court TV showed how the Zapruder film captured Connoly's jacket being blown open by the impact of the shot immediately after Kennedy is shot. Plus, how do you account for the fact of Connoly's wounds and where they came from? Were there now TWO shooters from the rear? Forensic Files also showed a fascinating result explaining how the "magic" bullet could end up the way it did, with no damage to the head, but flattening of the sides: It came out of Kennedy in a tumbling motion. And here's a fact: Connolly's wound in his back wasn't round, it was oblong, like a tumbling bullet would. And another fact: bullet's exiting cadavers tumbled. And tumbling bullets keep tumbling, showing no damage to the head but lots of flattening. The Zapruder film tells us more than Mrs. Connolly can because not only is physical reaction shown but things like his coat coming open shows exactly when he was hit, concommitant to Kennedy being hit in the throat.
  25. I understand your suspicions, but until his fluke injury this year, Schilling has been every bit a horse for quite a few years. I frankly don't see any reason why he couldn't sustain the performance that Clemens showed up to 40. I'm also not convinced he'll break the bank on an extension. The Sox have other big financial problems to work through, so if he really insists on too much, they won't get it done. But he's said intelligent things about what kind of money he wants-that its money on top of money he can't spend-so I think a deal is do-able. Intersting, isn't it, that the D-Backs wanted Soriano and JOhnson but are accepting far less from the Sox? I bet its fallout from the whole David Wells fiasco of two years ago-playing real hard ball with the Yanks. And despite your misgivings, I do think this is a real shot across the bow of the SS Steinbrenner, a warning that we're always going to compete. Anything that gives George a conniption is fine by me!
