  1. Didn’t get that on my phone and don’t have a free trial or paid sub.
  2. Thanks! I’m sure no one wants to read about AM Best
  3. If anyone hasn't yet gotten the two CDs he offers at his website, I highly recommend them. I put one of the tracks from Jazz Dance Suites in my BFT offering last year and it got some good reviews. The other one, a 1990 live date, is excellent as well.
  4. Not on Apple so will keep eyes open for a physical copy. Searching Mazurek on Apple exposes one of the biggest flaws on that platform as his many different bands and even his name (Stellar Pulsations is officially under both Bob and Rob Mazurek) aren’t all grouped together. CU is also split along the duo, quartet, etc groupings. Makes finding stuff less than easy. Not sure how it is on other streaming platforms but hoping it’s not similar.
  5. I forgot I was actually familiar with the CU quartet album Good Days but wasn’t aware of how far back they went. On that lead I ended up checking out Mazurek’s Exploding Star Orchestra’s Dimensional Stardust from 2020 and it’s really good. Some heavy hitters in that lineup: Nicole Mitchell, Tomkea Reid, Jeff Parker, Jaimie Branch and Joel Ross among others.
  6. Another group I know nothing about, so thanks for the lead. I see in the notes on the rear card they played with Fred Anderson, so that's definitely intriguing.
  7. I'm totally unversed in classical so in terms of how true these songs are to the source material I can't tell you. For all I know the titles could be a ruse to lure in Chopin fans and then sucker them into the jazz world. The old switcheroo, if you will. It's a good album though, esp if you like Rosenwinkel's style and sound. Brodbeck is new for me and I dug his piano playing also. Listening to this one and damn it's got some atmosphere
  8. I don't know, but judging by the song titles I'd wager "yes" (apologies for the c&p format but I don't want to type all that out) Étude in E-flat minor (Op. 10, No. 6) Prélude in E-flat minor (Op. 28, No. 14) 3. 'Raindrop' Prélude in D-flat major (Op. 28, No. 15) 4. Valse in C-sharp minor (Op. 64, No. 2) 5. Prélude in C major (Op. 28, No. 1) 6. Nouvelle Étude in A-flat major (No. 2) 7. Prélude in B minor (Op. 28, No. 6) 8. Nocturne in C-sharp minor (Op. 27, No. 1) 9. Prélude in A minor (Op. 28, No. 2) 10. Prélude in E major (Op. 28, No. 9)
  9. This one was just released. Rosenwinkel & Brodbeck are joined by Lukas Traxel and Jorge Rossy.
  10. Interesting. So the only domestic issues that contain the saw solo are the original US LPs and current streaming versions.
  11. Thank you! I hadn’t gotten around to comparing the Apple Music one yet.
  12. Ok, just found this thread after @JSngry put me on notice about this saw solo. Was it indeed Waits or Workman playing it? I don't think this snafu is widely known is it? If known, it doesn't seem to be much discussed. This may not be Lee's most popular album, so maybe it just hasn't popped up on the radar that frequently...? Definitely shouldn't have been mixed out, and this is perfect for a reissue remedy with what BN has going on in their current programs.
  13. Here's a great story about a record collection as legacy: https://waltermagazine.com/art-and-culture/lasting-legacy-veola-mclean-record-collection/?utm_campaign=later-linkinbio-sorrystate&utm_content=later-26564165&utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkin.bio&mc_cid=a326bd8ab7&mc_eid=2606b5c732 Local store owner bonds with a collector over a shared passion in education, so the store owner buys the lot (over 5,000 LPs) and sales proceeds go to a scholarship fund.
  14. Indeed. Similarly, Billy Higgins' drumming frequently makes me stand up and move. Totally an emotional experience which I'd say is a type of joy. And not the only Billy Stewart song that brings emotion, but it's on my mind at the moment:
  15. Tunes that hit me all the time: Duke & Coltrane's version of In a Sentimental Mood Duke Pearson's Moana Surf Gregory Isaac's Slave Master, Universal Tribulation & Slave Market Kiddus I's Security In the Streets & Harder Marley's Redemption Song still hits so hard, but also that live Slave Driver version and so many other songs from him & the Wailers Bunny's Bright Soul Tosh's Burial Garnett Silk's Mama Africa, Zion in a Vision & Fill Us Up with Your Mercy Albert King's version of The Sky Is Crying Sizzla's No Other Like Jah Pete Rock & CL Smooth's T.R.O.Y. Carlton Jackson's History Hugh Mundell's Red Gold & Green Miles' & Monk's version of Bags Groove I'll leave it bookended by jazz but there are so many more. Emotional to me doesn't necessarily mean tears btw, but includes a strong feeling of being uplifted or getting chills but also moved into that deep melancholy
  16. Much respect for him. First popped up on my radar on that Hemphill "Chile New York" album.
  17. Also noted in that it doesn't seem there was never a Japanese LP made, only a German LP and US/Euro/Japan CDs (and of course, an 8-track!). Seems prime material for these current BN reissue programs.
  18. That was a great opener for this session. Time constraints kept me from going through the whole thing but I'll revisit. It's one of those "radio" style playlists where the songs aren't shown in succession, only what's playing at that moment. Maybe after some time period they convert to listing out the playlist? I had to write these down as they popped up...
  19. Oh yeah. Warren Smith is so good.
  20. Well, if track 7 isn't Jim Hall then I'm guessing Barney Kessel. Probably incorrect too but I can't think of anyone else at the moment that might match.
  21. For whatever reason this is my first listen to this album and it's phenomenal. Definitely leaves a "what could've been" thought in my mind. It doesn't look this has ever been reissued with alternate tracks, and so I wonder if those possibly exist? If so, would be great to see those released at some point.
  22. Track 7: Is that a Jim Hall live date? Great tune.
