  1. Aren’t there a few tracks on that in Mosaic that didn’t make that Clef/Norgran Quintets box? I don’t have either (guess I could check on discogs but that site has been having issues lately)
  2. Track 6: is this Sunny Murray with Grachan Moncur and Roscoe Mitchell? The track Unity from Hommage to Africa? Track 7: is the bass player the leader?
  3. Prompted by the Newport Jazz Festival thread, listening to this one from 2021. Classic vocal style in a contemporary setting. Really enjoying Pasquale Grasso's guitar playing too. Ari Roland on bass and Kenny Washington on drums.
  4. An unforgettable appearance a few years later on Seinfeld as well. "What the hell is a Velvet Fog???"
  5. A Samara Joy tune just popped up on the radio show I’m listening to. First time I’ve heard her sing and it was an enjoyable number.
  6. The thing about this line up is that most listed are today’s “major label” artists for the genre.
  7. Seems like it. It's the newer version of Daffy, basically Bugs Bunny with a lisp. Nothing beats his original characterization but I guess that was a harder sell.
  8. Aw, he made Cyclops cry!
  9. Yeah, using PayPal for preorders can be problematic.
  10. I can’t figure out Shining Girls. The guy is psychic traveling?
  11. Sunsum is the only one I can find streaming.
  12. Warren Smith & William Parker = I gotta check that out
  13. Cameo is great. Super weird, sparse funk stylings esp post Rigormortis. Totally unique sound and they owned it at their peak. That Sunday night jam though….oof.
  14. Other than who you've listed, I'm familiar with, and would recommend: McBride's Newport Jawn (has to be enjoyable with that lineup) Esperanza Spalding (although I'm not a fan, I'd like to see her live) Digable Planets (hip hop with heavy jazz samples) Cecile McLorin Salvant Shabaka Hutchings & Sons of Kemet Theon Cross Nubya Garcia Nate Smith Ron Carter Quartet Jazz Is Dead (Hip hop again, this is Ali Shaheed Muhammad's project - he was the DJ for Tribe Called Quest) Jason Moran Trio (his recent duo with Archie Shepp is great, on the strength of that I'd see his trio) Makaya McCraven Pino Palladino, Blake Mills, Sam Gendel & Abe Rounds (I'm familiar with Gendel here & enjoy what I've heard - not familiar with the rest) Melissa Aldana Vijay Iyer Trio And of note, Lettuce is a neo-funk groove band (mostly/all instrumental) and the audience always has fun at their shows.
  15. I've only used Apple and for the most part it's a guessing game in terms of who mastered what and when. I've enjoyed the SQ overall however.
  16. Never heard of Gianni Brezzo (aka Marvin Horsch for his house records) but this is a good listen on this Tuesday morning.
  17. Maybe not the desired neighborhood (?) but this one comes to mind:
  18. I have that as well. Pretty noisy pressing though.
  19. Enjoy!
  20. Hamid Drake being involved makes this really interesting
  21. If that’s the case above, then clearing your cache might allow access again.
