  1. Thing is these establishments can’t play their own recordings from home right? They have to lease rights via BMG or whomever or they get sued. I’ve always thought a good way around that would be to have a live dj spinning no more than 1 or 1.5 minutes of a song. Imagine that at a Waffle House.
  2. Trying to get out of a Bill Evans funk with this one. Nice stuff, and I find myself listening more intently to what Manne is doing for some reason...then Childish Gambino's Awaken, My Love! Some good tunes, with Redbone being an instant classic...but there's not much deviation from a formula here and the sameness can wear thin after a while. On to Total classic from '98. George Clinton's legacy is substantial and probably eternal.
  3. I wouldn't worry about it man, and don't be so hard on your ears. Most reviewers there and elsewhere wouldn't be able to pick out pressing/media/artist or even song in a blind test. You really don't have to spend thousands of dollars to enjoy a piece of media that cost less than $100 (or even less than $25).
  4. Actually - I do have some CDs and an LP from them: These Bunny Wailer tracks were really hard to come by before Dub Store reissued them. And then this absolute classic: The rest of their reissue catalog is amazing. The Jammy collections, obscure rock steady sides and variety of singles is impressive. Of note, the quality of their physical media is very dependable.
  5. Yes, very familiar but due to prices I’ve only done downloads or streams. Orthodox Dub is excellent and was a priority for me when they reissued it.
  6. Ah, I've got Callier's What Color is Love and didn't realize Stepney was on that.
  7. Never heard of him that I know of but dig the track
  8. Oh, not saying it was technically double tracked, but with her singing along with Gene it gave the illusion of being double tracked. Which I guess is what all singing duos would sound like but their voices meshed really well.
  9. The effect of her vocals comes across as double tracking, at least the way I'm hearing it. Pretty cool idea to do that. I'd say that's reminiscent of Jamaican vocal duo stylings. That first song here sounds more Latin influenced than Jamaican at least to me.
  10. Kiefer's Bridges EP Per discogs this was only issued as a cassette. Listening via AM stream.
  11. Yeah, I dig trios as a whole across various instrumentation combos. I just struggle with Evans these days. Wish I could articulate why but can't at the moment.
  12. You mean that's not Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton and Buck Clayton, AKA Two Bills & A Buck ???
  13. Pete Rock & J Dilla records are always good.
  14. When I first started getting into jazz and was exploring trios I enjoyed a lot of Evans albums and subsequently bought a good number of them across labels/lineups. Lately I've been struggling with listening to them, and it's a pretty strong reaction in that I can't finish these albums at all. After 2 or 3 songs it's enough for me and as a result, I've stacked up these Evans titles for a possible cull. Holding off because I've regretted doing that in the past. Definitely possible I could come back to enjoying these but for right now I'm not digging Bill Evans.
  15. Eh, fine the guy and move on.
  16. All good here man.
  17. Wow. Thanks for the link. Anyone ordered from them before?
  18. This one was on the Jazz Times Top 40 jazz albums for 2021. I listened and enjoyed it, but that was after listening to Mike LeDonne's new big band album (also from that list). I think the contrast made it interesting. Haven't played it since, so I'll have to give it another listen.
  19. That’s awful. She must have been in so much pain prior to that operation. RIP. I really need to check out more of her work.
  20. I don't but the Discovery Records reissue looks to be available at affordable prices https://www.discogs.com/release/3478452-Warne-Marsh-Group-Featuring-Sal-Mosca-Sam-Jones-And-Roy-Haynes-How-Deep-How-High
  21. Looks like this website is now songtradr. com
  22. Sounds like some really interesting quiet storm/smooth jazz. They effectively weave in some harmonizing disparate elements that you don't get from typical smooth jazz cruise acts, along with an at-times ominous soundscape. I dig it.
  23. Lots: Ron McLure Bill Mobley Bill Easley Gerald Clayton Earma Thompson The list goes on...
  24. Aha, so I had heard him before! Only this time I'm aware it's him playing.
