  1. 'get a new one' sounds about right then. damn
  2. I'm a fan of the Roaratorio Sun Ra albums. That Sun Embassy is a good one. If I remember correctly it's a collection of recordings from Ra's compound after he would wake them up early in the morning to practice. Lots of percussion.
  3. While on this subject, anyone have tips for cleaning CD players? Mine is having issues reading discs consistently, skipping frequently. At first I thought it was the discs themselves but figured out it was the player.
  4. The Bears moving out of Chicago but still keeping the Chicago name is ridiculous. Soldier Field is iconic and right in the heart of the city. At least change the name like the Cardinals did once they moved out to Glendale.
  5. download via: https://bigjohnpatton.bandcamp.com/album/soul-connection Recommended album
  6. John Patton's Soul Connection
  7. I remember that report from a couple of years ago that cited half of LP buyers didn't have a turntable to play them on. Maybe that trend has changed a little since, but I'd be surprised if CDs ever catch back on domestically enough for a spike in demand for players. I'd be all for it, but seems like a long shot.
  8. That was extremely generous of him and very cool to hear.
  9. No. 408 from ZIM is mind blowing. Listening to the entire album on headphones is recommended.
  10. It will be interesting to see what happens to physical media in the next decade or so. Nothing is fixed. What we have today for streaming could look very different in terms of content and pricing in future. If these large platforms ever introduce tiered pricing mixed with AI-artist development and promotion, some of their customer base could leave and go seeking physical media or other options. I just don't see it happening for CDs overall though. One needs a CD player, receiver and speakers to listen to them and younger millennials and gen z don't seem like the demographic that's going to go out of their way to get all of that going. Happy to be wrong on that.
  11. All speculative but I'm wondering if some music fans' aversion to multiple takes of the same songs drove them to release an "album" version vs the complete. Multiple versions of studio-recorded Impressions make the 2 CD version an automatic purchase IMO. But looking back, when I got it I didn't even know there was a single CD option. I'd have gone for the 2 CD regardless.
  12. The double CD has alternate versions for 11386, Vilia, Impressions and One Up One Down.
  13. Yes, thanks for explaining that. I wondered about those multiple options that come up occasionally.
  14. I got the Byas and Sanders sets at the same time. I'll have to go back and recheck how the Sanders loaded but I don't have any presets that would put Byas or anyone else in "pop". It was a weird occurrence and a minor annoyance since my library is pretty large, which causes these tracks to get buried in obscurity bc I rarely if ever access my collection for pop.
  15. I may have seen those LPs in a store around here recently. Will keep my eyes peeled for it. Thanks for the rec as well 🍻 One thing I didn't realize with this set after ripping it to my library is that several discs are tagged as "pop" instead of jazz in the metadata. That kind of mislabeling leads it to being missed when using my player and selecting the jazz category. Anyway, remedied that issue.
  16. Albinia Jones Evil Gal Blues on the Don Byas Mosaic.
  17. the Hank D'Amico tracks on CD2 are gold. D'Amico on clarinet was completely off my radar before. Those songs are tight. Keeping going on this one...
  18. Let's hope that doesn't happen! We all remember how he felt about Spiro et al
  19. https://jazzinbritain1.bandcamp.com/album/kaleidoscope-of-rainbows-live-75 Jazz in Britain issued this live from '75 recording of Kaleidoscope in 2021. I'm behind the times and had no idea. Enjoying the listen.
  20. This album streams. First heard her on local radio recently and had no idea she was so young.
  21. I haven't seen Malian Mami Diarra mentioned in this thread. The young lady's singing is a force of nature. Here's the track Bagnaigo:
  22. This was a good one. Hate I missed the Chico track.
