  1. Roll call! I'm taking the week off. Who else?
  2. Years ago I came to the conclusion that Americans don't like beer when I realized that every Big New Thing in beer is more watered down than the last Big New Thing.
  3. Happy Birthday 2010 jmjk!
  4. Was Santa good to you this Christmas, musically speaking? I got three boxes: Soft Machine - Original Album Classics Johnny Cash - Complete Sun Masters Sonny Rollins - Complete Prestige Recordings (still in the mail)
  5. Thanks for the heads up TTK! I don't know this one, but at the price it's worth checking out!

  7. I've learned this week about a website called goodreads.com, which is something of a social website for readers. I've decided to keep track of my books in 2011, so I have started a list which you can see here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/4689852
  8. Merry Christmas everyone! And I hope that everyone's holiday week is both joyous and safe!
  9. I'm surprised there haven't been college betting scandals like there were in the 50s. One of the justifications of paying pro players so much is that they won't be tempted by the gamblers to throw the game.

  12. It now looks like there is a real possibility that the Ticats will relocate. The Hamilton City Council today voted down the proposed location of a new stadium, and Ivor Wynne (which was built around 1930) can't go much further without a very expensive rehab for which there is no money. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=346537 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/hamilton-decides-against-mayors-pick-for-stadium-site/article1847692/ http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/ticats-search-for-new-home-hits-dead-end/article1847844/
  13. I saw him doing standup more than once on the Tonight Show and enjoyed him very much. Very laid back and easy going, and likeable.
  14. Happy Birthday 2010 Swinger!
  15. In his press conference immeidately after the Grey Cup game, Anthony Calvillo announced that he had a thyroid problem and would go under the knife soon. A lesion on the thyroid was removed, and it was determined to be cancerous. So today his thyroid gland was removed. The report is that the doctor is satisfied. But at 38 years of age, you have to wonder if this will be relevant to Calvillo's playing future. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/calvillo-has-second-operation-after-results-show-presence-of-cancer-cells/article1846443/
  16. Chuck, it looks like you've got a few CDs in your house!
  17. That's great! I remember when Tesser had an NPR show with Mark Ruffin, and before that a column in USA Today. I don't know what he's up to now. Any idea how influential his top ten list might be?
  18. Happy Birthday David!
  19. Happy Birthday 2010 Jay!

  24. Blake Edwards died yesterday. Although best known for his movies, he made this contribution to dramatic fiction: He was the first modern writer who created a private eye who got along swell with the police. Prior to him, there was usually friction between the private detective and the police. His first work in this regard was Richard Diamond on the radio with Dick Powell. He later took the same idea to television with Peter Gunn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blake_Edwards
