I read that the long list of movie credits is due to the fact that without them the individual who did the work can't prove that he did, and may be lying on his resume. So the unions negotiated the credit-listing of (virtually?) every employee so that he can verify the accuracy of his resume.

With 15,000 albums available, I don't often look through what BMG has to offer. I just check out the new releases list every week. I would enjoy seeing what everyone else plans to receive in the next few weeks, along with a brief explanation of what you have heard about the album that makes you want it. I'm sure that I will get an idea or two from your selections. And not just jazz. For example, somebody (maybe JSngry) pointed out that Jerry Orbach's one album is now available. That would make a great birthday gift for my sister. Anyway, up next for me is Stan Getz's Captain Marvel. There was a thread about this album three weeks ago, and it made me want to move it up my queue. But when I went to the website, I found that it was already at the #1 spot! I have plenty of Stan Getz already, but I like Chick Corea's playing from this period, and since I have heard only good things about the album over the years I thought now would be a good time to pick it up. What's #1 on your queue?

I don't recall anyone telling of a backorder problem with the BMG Record Club. It makes me wonder if the problem is not with the inventory but rather their getting behind schedule in their work.

I am thinking about picking up Never No Lament, which is a 3-CD box of the Blanton-Webster Band. The reviews at Amazon are quite striking. Some people say that the sound is horrible and that this set is a gyp, while others say that the sound is excellent and the set is essential. Does anybody here have Never No Lament, and if so what is your opinion of the sound? Should I get it?

OK, Chuck, you've convinced me! I'll plan to open Worktime on Easter. It will be a good way to celebrate the day. By the way, my LP is an OJC I bought about '93. Is there any reason to think it's a collector's item? If so, I really will offer it on eBay, but if not I'll just play it.

Thanks, Nate. I think I needed someone to tell me that. Peter, for that price it may be worth it to just go ahead and get it, but now that I know that I already have most of it, I suppose that there are other things to spend my money on first.

In addition to the good script and the good acting, I like The Third Man because the whole concept of having to deal with an old best friend remained with me long after the film ended.

My favorite movies are The Third Man and Lover Come Back. Since neither won the Oscar, I would go with them. I've never taken the Oscars seriously. Too much politics and sentiment.

Nate Dorward, you remind me that I already have the Miles Dig and Oleo sessions, as well as all of the Monk sessions. It looks like I'm right in the middle, having more than half the box already. That may be too much to justify buying the box, instead of just the two albums you mention. Thanks everyone for your input! You too, Chuck!

If you haven't opened and loved Worktime, you're not worthy. Forget it. Chuck, I figure it's been so long I should sell it on eBay to an audiophile!

I already own Saxophone Colossus, Tenor Madness and Plus Four on CD. I also years ago bought an LP of Worktime which I haven't opened yet. Is that all of the best music on the Rollins Prestige box? Would it be worthwhile for me to spend a little bit at Your Music for the box, or do I already have just about everything worth having? I'm not a completist. Just because there is something available in the box doesn't move me to want it. Your suggestions are appreciated!

I like compilations, particularly ones of ballads. Compilations are often available cheap, which allows me to pick up something extra without taking it too seriously. I'm listening to a Lionel Hampton best of right now. I had a good hunch that I would not likely buy more than one of his CDs, so I just picked up this one. Makes sense to me!

I read an interesting story about that cover. When Fantasy decided to re-release that album as an LP in the 80s, it was unable to find any artwork! Not only could it not find its original artwork, it couldn't find a copy of the album either. After it was released on LP but before the time came for the CD to be released, a copy of the album turned up, and they used a photo of its cover for the CD.

Years ago I read a crime novel by Elmore Leonard that could have been The Switch, I can't remember for sure. Anyway, the bad guys throughout the story were listening to Groove Holmes tapes.

Mike, that was a different one. And while I'm at it, I have the mid-60s cover of the Prestige Gerry Mulligan album with Mulligan's Too on it. Can't think of the name right now. The OJC has what I assume is the original cover. But the Mulligan record didn't come with the cover! Instead, they had inserted Soultrane by mistake. Save your applause, I would have preferred the Mulligan! EDIT 2/21: The Mulligan OJC title is Mulligan Plays Mulligan. I still can't remember the title of the 60s version, except that that wasn't it. I never entered it into my database because the record didn't come with it!
