  1. I've thought the sound on the Collectables Atlantic stuff has seemed pretty good overall. Collectables came a long way from their early needle-drop beginnings, though they will never be an audiophile label. Of course, with the warehouse fire, there won't be audiophile vintage Atlantic stuff anyways. I didn't think much of Collectables mastering on the Heath Brother's twofer (with SC of course).
  2. Everything ok here but haven't played all discs yet
  3. pm on Shirley Horn and Gerald Wilson
  4. Her's to Life-Shirley Horn is JM at his best, IMO.
  5. Thanks for the 'heads-up'! My order's in. mine as well
  6. the majority of the population 12 and over now has a Facebook account
  7. pm on Papa John DeFrancesco
  8. I really enjoyed his autobiography and recommend it to any jazz lover. One thing about JH, wherever he is in his composition, there is always melody. A good thing, IMO.
  9. my seller wasn't active either but I found the email address in my paypal history and he/she eventually came through so worth a shot.
  10. happened to me with the stereo set but, fortunately, the seller was honest and gave me a full refund and let me keep the set. I bought a legitimate mono set and recommend it highly.
  11. I've got both and enjoy both. I would decide based on if you enjoy big band or small group bop. Dizzy on the way. I have the Proper Herman set which I know is not up to Mosaic standards but will do until I can get the Herman box. As usual, my cc thanks everyone for their enablement.
  12. between the Dizzy and the Herman set.
  13. listening to Swings now. very enjoyable (the mrs concurs) and I just picked up the Proper set on Amazon which collects his early 50s material. Belated thanks for the info.

    Stan Getz

If you're enjoying that one, then be sure to check out it's sister recording, "Serenity". Both Anniversary and Serenity are great albums! My library, of all places, had these. I love when you can access good music and get some bang for your tax buck I first heard Anniversary from a library copy but quickly purchased it and bought Serenity when it was released. Getz was a jerk (probably due to alcoholism and his bi-polarity issues) but maybe my favorite tenor player.
  15. especially the DVD-A multichannel mix. You are right in the studio
  16. any thoughts on Antonio Brasileiro?
  17. well, I'm sure you reading the Washington Post online but this is the DC free paper My link which has a good calendar. Welcome to DC.
  18. Urubu is another that I like more with each listen as well as Jobim.
  19. It was an early digital release on Denon, IIRC, and one of the first DDDs I purchased. I saw this group at Blues Alley in DC playing a number of tracks from this cd and remember really enjoying the set.
  20. One of the greats is gone. I'm just glad I saw him perform several times, always at the highest level.
  21. Two sellers are offering it at a great price. Unfortunately, they don't ship to the U.S. Sorry to see they don't ship to US. UKers should jump on this (£31.99 at this moment, tracking down every day...). The principal difference between the euromosaic and the regular is that these sets are unnumbered, the product code on the spine is different, there is a back cover information sheet describing the contents, and... the booklet paper is maybe a bit shinier.... Works out under £5 per disk at this price. I emailed the seller and they will ship to the US for additional 15 quid.
