    Car speakers

I'd imagine the speakers are, yes, either falling apart, or are loose and need to be tightened. At 17, I'd probably spring for new speakers. check www.crutchfield.com to see what will fit and how hard it will be to install.
  2. agreed-People Time is not one of my favorite Getz/Barron recordings but I haven't listened to it in years.
  3. so did mine-sealed which I expected. Listened to disc 1 last night-my spouse did not like the vocal interlude-it's out there for sure. Great music. I remember seeing the orchestra with Frank Wess in the 80s at Blues Alley in DC.
  4. your ears are unique to you so don't buy any speaker until you have had a chance to listen to it on a flat system (no eq) with several of your favorite cds. If you buy the speakers, try and get at least a 30 day exchange/refund so you can really see if they are for you. Most reputable stores offer this as they want you to be happy (and return to buy more gear). Remember, they're your ears, no one elses!
  5. taped it-will watch this wekend
  6. my copy of Detroit finally appeared and I must say it's delightful. Another winner from maestro Wilson!
  7. highly recommend the GD movie soundtrack. Great sound capturing the band at a career pinnacle. The movie itself is worth owning especially for the bonus disc with some tremendous jams in 5.1 sound-turn up the sub and let Phil shake the house!
  8. the road we take back to our condo from town here in Rehoboth Beach is called State Street so naturally "State Street Suite" comes to mind. Another great Wilson release!
  9. great album but poorly engineered (read the liner notes), IMO.
  10. Thanks chewy! I always liked Blue Pacific but it could use the "naked" treatment. There's good music underneath all those drum machines and synths.
  11. what is the title of the Charles Earland?
  12. so it is him playing there. I went there last year on a Tuesday after calling to make sure he was there and he wasn't. I'll have to check this gig out again.
  13. Are these the Wolfgang's Vaults releases? If so, this is a treasure trove.
  14. I have with the Gillespie all star orchestra a couple of years ago....orchestra swung, Roberta didn't. My spouse had the same reaction.
  15. on its way. Any thoughts? For me, always a pleasure to have a new recording by this seemingly ageless (91!) composer/arranger. lala has a cut-Blues on Belle Isle.
  16. Tell me why Roberta Gambrini is so popular? Technically acceptable, but rarely do I hear much emotion-something to grab the listener's attention. While Emergence doesn't have the appeal of Ear Food, it's a solid effort overall.
  17. pm sent on Shaw, Artie 1949 Musicmasters
  18. another rec for the Garner set. I bought all those titles individually and the level of musical quality is high. Now if we could only get Concert by the Sea remastered and made complete!
  19. lovely voice
  20. I enjoy the cds I have by Heid. Everything is well done.
  21. The Raven compilation looks good. anyone have this?
  22. the telarc doubles are a good way to go
  23. From the site: August 11, 2009- SERIES 4 Re-announced! Wow! What a summer. This series has been the most challenging to put together, yet one of the most rewarding with new relationships at the BBC and INA in France. As you can see from the last entry we've had to make a change in the lineup. Due to circumstances beyond our control we've had to hold back Max Roach for another series. The Erroll Garner material is stellar and we feel, more than makes up for the loss of Roach. Also, the Coleman Hawkins DVD has significantly changed with the video restoration of the 1962 concert earning it a spot on the main DVD. Here are the titles, coming out in October of 2009: * Coleman Hawkins- Live in '62 & '64- (w/ Sweets Edison and Jo Jones) * Art Blakey- Live in '65- (w/ Freddie Hubbard) * Erroll Garner - Live in '63 & '64 * Jimmy Smith- Live in '69 * Woody Herman- Live in '64 * Anita O'Day- Live In '63 & '70 * Art Farmer- Live In '64- (w/ Jim Hall) * Boxed Set featuring bonus performances, including a half-hour Coleman Hawkins concert from London in 1966, with Benny Carter and Louie Bellson.
  24. Haven't heard it so can't comment on sound or music, but one thing that's a necessity for most big band recordings is to capture the bite of the trumpet section. If the engineer misses that, the whole recording can be a bit of a downer. Trumpet dynamics sound ok and it's a good recording, don't get me wrong. Specifically, I was referring to the drum cymbals which don't have that "bite". Maybe it's the monitors used and I know Klipsch give a brighter sound than some speakers.
