Never experienced pain like this
PHILLYQ replied to papsrus's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Glad to hear that you're feeling better Paps A side note- are they also checking out your blood sugar? I ask because diabetics and those on their way to it can have all sorts of circulation/blood problems. -
I thought it was Brian Bannister. Pretty good starter, might actually do well on a talented team. it is Brian, I'm wiped out from staying up late to watch the game last night.
-
I gave it a spin last night and I like it and I think I'll like it more as I play it more.

The White Sox traded for Mark Teahen, which may help them quite a bit. I'd also look to Mark Bannister to be dealt by the Royals.

I became a Yankee fan in '64, I was 8 years old and starting to get interested in baseball. In Brooklyn you picked a team and you were expected to stick with them for life. The Yankees were going to the WS in '64 and the Mets were a buch of losers, lovable and comical, but that didn't go far for an 8 year old. So the Yanks make the WS and lose to the Cards(Gibson, Ken Boyer, etc) and I was disappointed but hopeful for next year. Of course, after '64 they started a string of 9th place finishes in a 10 team league! I learned quite a bit about loyalty and sticking with it that became valuable as I got older. '76/'77 were wonderful for me, at 20 & 21 I was backing the champs, and '81 was quite disappointing, and then came a long slide with good offensive teams and no pitching and then total stinkdom(Stump Merrill, anyone?). The teams from '94 on have been great to enjoy, and this year has been especially great, if Matsui is done as a Yankee he went out in grand style and I LOOOOVE Sabathia, and the core four have one for the tail end of their careers. Tomorow is the parade, and when I get off the subway in lower Manhattan around 7:00 to go to NJ for work I'm sure they'll be lots of people already there to get a good spot for the parade. Sometimes baseball and the hoopla is a welcome diversion from life.

I agree, the Phillies are loaded, not sure if any big names will be leaving but they are the team to beat going into next year at least in the NL. A lot of people were saying that the Phillies didn't hit and that lost them the series but I think the Yankee pitching was better than what the Phillies had. If the Phillies keep Lee and get Hamels back to what he was in 2008 with that lineup they could be back in the WS next year.

I went to bed at midnight and I'm up at 4:30 but for now I FEEL GREAT!!!! Kudos for the Phils, they never quit and made it a very good WS. Parade tomorrow, if I could I'd take off work and go, shouild be lots of people for the parade.

Anyone else going to the WFMU Record Fair tonight?
PHILLYQ replied to Dmitry's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
This may sound a bit strange but I went to the WFMU record fair and I don't buy vinyl and my turntable doesn't work! I had a free Saturday(wife out for the day), and whenever I can I go to the farmer's market in Union Square. I also had a coupon for $2 off the admission, so it cost me $5 to go there and it's about 7-8 blocks away from the farmer's market. It was a lot of fun, tons of vendors and a vinyl lover's scene for sure. I bought some CDs there and got some good deals, like the first five Mahavishnu discs in a box for $24, a Beau Jacque disc for $4, and on the way out I nabbed a Revolutionary Ensemble disc for $3. I think I saw two or three women there, possibly one without a boyfriend/husband, and mostly a lot of guys who looked like me- middle-aged white guys. It was almost like being in a larger version of Academy!! -
Thanks for posting that Dave, hilarious!!! RIP Soupy, I spent many afternoons after school watching him and appreciating how funny and weird he was all at once.

...and you get to hear Stanley Crouch on drums

Frequently I mute the tube and play music. As bad as some baseball announcers are, they're nowhere near as bad as 90%+ of football announcers, especially the college ones.
-
Umps blow another call, Posada run back to third, Cano right near third but not touching it, catcher alertly tags both runners and only one out is called!!! I'm a Yankee fan and this is absurd- I may Fedex my glasses to the umpiring crew- they need it badly.

A-ROD WITH ANOTHER BLAST!!! He 's on fire
-
Kazmir over 80 pitches in the 4th, Sabathia with 29 through 3! Horrendous umpiring twice in the top of the fourth, both involving Swisher- he's clearly out on a pickoff(called safe) and then gets called out on an appeal play but he didn't leave early- I guess it's karma.

I'll call you and raise. Why did Girardi remove David Robertson, who was pitching very effectively, and replace him with Alfredo Aceves with two outs in the bottom of the 11th? That makes no sense. Up over and out Exactly my thought- with a runner on second, two outs and a good strikeout pitcher on the mound, why change??? Girardi may have outthunk himself.

Titans were without their starting cornerbacks. They got behind so early that they became helpless. As for the Patriots, I mentioned a few weeks ago that once the Pats' offense start to get in sync it will be scary. Looks like it's about to happen. This year's team is probably the most talented and deepest since 2004. They will be a Super Bowl threat by the end of the season. Started off rough owing to a lot of new faces on the field and Josh McDaniels left to coach the Broncos. They also started off the season against five straight teams without a loss. Schedule remains easy next week with Tampa Bay up next, but they might be facing another undefeated team with Indianapolis in a few weeks. Conn, why in the world did Belicheck let Brady play after halftime? At 45-0 you sit your starting QB and keep him safe. Staring at 0-6, some Titan might do something stupid and injure Brady.

And again... for the third time... IT'S A GIRL!!!

Congrats and best wishes -
Too late--I think tonight's game already gave me one. I wound up drinking quite a bit more than I had planned because of the game. I went to a concert Saturday night and got back to Brooklyn close to 11:00, so I went to a bar a few blocks away from my house(unbeknownst to me it's a Yankee bar) to grab a pint, watch the last inning or so and then go home. Wel, once I was there I had to stay until the end, so I wound up drinking pints(Sam Adams)until 1:30 AM!!! The bartender was giving me buybacks after two pints, so it turned out very cheap, and no driving involved- just walk about six blocks and I was in the door.
