  1. I'm willing to keep my ears open, Jim. Just got the Don Cherry Blue Notes and have been listening to those. What Sextet album would you recommend? 'You Know the Number' has some wickedly swinging blues on it, well worth a listen IMHO.
  2. I'm a Yankee fan with a Met fan sister and Met fan friends and I extend my sympathy to you guys. I don't think I've ever seen a rash of injuries to so many key players in one year. To top it off, Reyes hurt himself again recently and needs surgery with next year already looking a bit shaky.
  3. Greg, Check out 'Little Pocket Size Demons' from 'Too Much Sugar for a Dime'- it swings like crazy!!!
  4. Right. It was the WHOLE bullpen. That bullpen cost Santana a bunch of wins in 2008.
  5. Great news- wait 'till next year...
  6. Great news that you are back MG - I hope your computer problems are a thing of the past.
  7. you just felt like high jacking someone's thread then ? Life must be enormously exciting for you : ) More of a thread enhancement... Saturday night at 8:30, this is the best thing you have to do ? Wowsa : ) Have you tried Best Buy? I was in one last week and they had the stereo box. J&R may be worth a shot also.
  8. I owned a Hyundai a while back(bought new) and a a friend of mine bought an Elantra a few years ago. We both had the same experience- for the first year or two it ran well and then it fix, fix, fix after that. Not major stuff, but enough to annoy the crap out of you and put a slow drain on the wallet. Tha's the experience of two people in Brooklyn, so YMMV.
  9. Browns aren't doing too well, either-Go Cavs?
  10. Salvador Dali Louis Armstrong Carol Channing
  11. Ferris also recorded with Billy Cobham on 'Shabazz'.
  12. Robert Duvall Harrison Ford Lawrence Fishburne
  13. The gig a month rolls on, as I got my September gig in on Sunday with a rock geezer, Robin Trower. The gig was the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville NJ, a fairly large bar that calls itself a ballroom. Other than the foot pain from standing for hours the show was pretty good. Trower had a singer who was barely heard in the mix and didn't seem to carry much vocal punch when he was heard, but the drummer was OK and the bass palyer was good. Trower himself played very well, nothing new or different but he plays the blues/rock thing quite well and is a compelling soloist.
  14. If anyone has the chance to go see them, please do without any hesitation. I saw them last year at the Village Vanguard and it was stunning. I could only take one set- the music was overwhelming and after one set I felt drained because it was so intense. Oxley & Taylor seem sometimes like one mind with two bodies.
  15. Pope John Paul II Ducky Medwick Dizzy Dean
  16. I saw the Plugged Nickel at $185.00 with time to go on Ebay recently, so it's a good price for a great set.
  17. I go through the same thing and I stay away, check out something different or new and then return. However, it could be that you've lost your taste for them, and if so, well there's lots of other stuff to listen to.
  18. Got a taker for Song X and Tal Farlow- anybody for Righteous Buddha? They're a funky organ trio(organ, bass, drums). Soory, US only(postage) Righteous Buddha still available, Bitches Brew, Matthew Shipp- get 'em for free, all or one or any combination thereof... Shipp is gone, but others above await a good home in the US- please adopt a disc.
  19. It may be hard to find, but there is a Japanese remastering using DSD that is the same mix and sounds the same as the vinyl. And defintely CRANK IT UP!!!
  20. Cito Gaston Frank Robinson Willie Randolph
  21. I have the 3 at a time for $18 a month. Their selection is huge and the service is excellent. I've gotten a few defective discs and they send a replacement immediately when you report it. I've been interested in foreign films and they have a great selection. I usually wind up watching about 10-12 movies a month, so it costs me $1.50-$1.80 a rental with no late fees. I have a Cecil Taylor coming up on my queue, so when I watch it I'll report back.
  22. I think the Pats would rather trade a player with some years left than hold on to them until they decline. The pick the Pats got from the Raiders may turn out to be a good one, as long as the Raiders continue to stink for two more seasons.
  23. funny i heard "i want to see the bright lights tonight" by richard and linda thompson for the first time two days ago and also definitely want to do some more listening in that direction... if you have any interest in Richard Thompson(for the life of me it's sometimes hard to understand why he's not a multi-platinum seller ), I would strongly suggest 'Shoot out the Lights" with Linda, 'Hand of Kindness', "Rumor & Sigh' & 'Mock Tudor'. Among those discs are many gems.
  24. Wilford Brimley Don Ameche Hume Cronyn
