  1. A perfect game against a good team is pretty rare- kudos to Braden!
  2. I watched the game, Ghost, and it was weird. Beckett started out like a house on fire, and in the 6th he just lost it- it seemed like he didn't know where the ball was going. He hit two guys with the bags jammed, the last thing a pitcher wants to do, and though the Yanks were yeling from the dugout it didn't look intentional at all to me. Dan, don't give up hope on today's game--Dave "Houdini" Robertson, he of the 13.50 ERA, has taken to the mound for New York!
  3. Does the woman who plays Annie actually play the violin? Whoever does has a gorgeous tone.
  4. How's Mota doing without the 'roids?
  5. The Stone is not for everyone. I like it a lot, but just note that they sell no drinks or food, and the decor is austere. It is cheap and if your interest is just music it's very nice.
  6. The live album was recorded over two nights at Central Park in 1973 and I was at one of those nights. I was 17 and it was a mind-altering experience, even though I had seen them the year before there. Mahavishnu led me to Miles, then to everybody else.
  7. If you're in the Village and you want some excellent pizza, try John's on Bleeker Street: http://www.johnsbrickovenpizza.com/ I love pizza and I highly recommend it. 55Bar is a really cool place for music and usually not expensive. If there's anybody you like, Jazz Gallery is nice:http://jazzgallery.org/live/
  8. More here. This guy is remarkably ignorant of NYC. There was only one baseball team in NYC from 1957-1962- who would a kid from Brooklyn or Queens root for? In '62 the Mets began, and only those who are attracted to lovable comic losers, or Yank haters or die-hard NL fans rooted for them. I went to my first baseball game in 1962, a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium and became a Yank fan for life there. I'm no Iscariot and any suggestion of same is a steaming pile of poo. That said, I'm not too crazy about the young kids who are Yank fans and only know winning and playoffs, etc. and are spoiled rotten. Yanks lose two games and they want to trade the team. I was a Yank fan in the dark years of Horace Clark, the reign of error of Stump Merrill, etc. This guy's an ignorant yutz.
  9. So you can sleep tonight, ponder this- when you start counting, you start at one, not zero.
  10. I ordered his new disc from Amazon and I'm excited to hear it. I caught some Wilco on TV recently, and for a rock band Cline does some stuff that's out there- very cool and still within the tune they're playing.
  11. Ghost, don't sweat Tex, he always starts slow and winds up around the same numbers every year. His glove is always great.
  12. The correct quote is "I got a huuuuuuge paycheck for this gig, so it's OK. Next week I'm playing China, followed by a residency in Zimbabwe."
  13. I watched some of it last night- James Brown James Brown James Brown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tha cape stuff was a rip and a half, the dancing on one foot, he tore the roof off the joint. Sting referred to this in the lyrics to 'When the World is Running Down...'
  14. August 1970, Santana at the Fillmore East. Opening act- Rahsaan Roland Kirk!!!(I thought he was just weird with the multiple horns, etc. Two years later I thought he was brilliant!)
  15. According to Jazzloft they are remastered. I sprung for the Threadgill as I have only one title of the 7.
  16. Micha, maybe the email address below will help, but he's mailing them from Brooklyn, so you should have gotten them by now. Mine arrived within days of order. I believe it's one guy, but you don't want it to fall through the cracks.
  17. Jim Sangrey mentioned Ibrahim Electric somewhere and I checked it out and loved it- thanks, Jim! Clem raved about Debashish Bhattacharya(sp?) on a thread and he happened to be playing in NYC about a week later, so I went to see him and loved that also. There's probably many more if I start looking through my music collection.
  18. MG, I'd like to meet up. I'll send you a PM and we'll see what we can do. Any otherNY/NJ folks, can we get a group together?
  19. Not quite as horrible as pizzabeer, but a travesty IMHO is the pizzacone: http://gothamist.com/2010/02/22/pizza_in_a_cone_rolls_out_in_manhat.php
  20. Congrats and I wish you both much happiness in the future. You're very lucky to find a woman who can tolerate your music jones- rare indeed.
  21. I ordered from ESP directly and got my order in less than a week, but the return address for ESP is in Brooklyn about a 20 minute car ride from my house. I get the impression that ESP may be a verrrry small operation, so filling the Jazzloft orders may take some time(ship from Brooklyn to Jazzloft, then onward).
  22. On Max Roach's 'To the Max' it's spelled with one 'r',but I don't know how good a speller he was.
  23. How would Dan Quayle spell it???
  24. Since N'awlins is in the SB, how about Rebirth Brass Band, Dr. John, Nevilles, etc? Nah, makes too much sense and they might expose the nation to real good music
