  1. Happy Birthday, Dan!
  2. Low 90's today in southern Maine.
  3. Never quite understood why the set hadn't sold out sooner. But great for the folks who really want to hear this music.
  4. Sorry to come across this. R.I.P. Mr. Smith. While I'm at it, more than a few people here have made mention of his Steeplechase sessions. A few recommendations please?
  5. Big Papi should reconsider retiring with the numbers he's put up this year. Amazing.

    RVG - RIP

Sad news to all jazz lovers. Thanks Rudy with providing us will all this great music. Your memory lives on.
  7. I enjoy the album as well. Then again I pretty much enjoy anything Kenny does.
  8. Somehow I knew you would chime in on this one, Paul. Some real nice Sunnyland Slim also.
  9. Sad news although not a surprise. Thanks Bobby for the great music especially those wonderful Blue Note recordings. I'll try to play some of those on my rare day off tomorrow.
  10. I remember recently scrolling through the channels and seeing that "The McLaughlin Group" was still on the air. With some of the same panelists although obviously much older looking. Amazing how long that show aired. 2 panelists representing the left and 2 from the right discussing politics with McLaughlin as the moderator. I always enjoyed that show. R.I.P. John.
  11. Thoughts on this one? I heard some of this on Jazz Profiles on WKCR earlier.
  12. Musically there isn't much happening especially if you enjoy jazz, You might as well be speaking a foreign language with some of the looks you'd get. That would be just down the road from me. My wife works at an assisted living facility in York. She loves working there. As long as you don't mind the summer crowds and traffic jams, you'll fit in.
  13. Count me in.
  14. Boy, those were the good old days. Thanks for the birthday wishes fellas. Going out to dinner later in Kennebunk to a restaurant new to me. Looks like a very nice place.
  15. Since I own only a few Savoy releases as of now, this would be of interest to me.
  16. Loving this thread! Keep 'em coming! While I have you felllas on the line, any thoughts on these 2 albums?
  17. I already own a few of the Curtis Fuller Blue Notes. Looks like I have to check out the Savoy's as well.
  18. It's probably a good thing you don't live nearby. I might find myself over at your house a lot! I've heard many good things on this one.
  19. I imagine this may have been discussed here at one time or another? If so, you can always provide me with a link so I don't further waste your time. That said, I've been recently picking up some Savoy titles here and there. Most notably some of the Milt Jackson's. I own a few other titles from this label. Charlie Parker and Hank Mobley come to mind. For the most part this is a most unexplored territory for me. I was wondering what are some of your favorite Savoy releases? What you think I should be looking for? I realize some of these titles may be tough to come by, but that's ok. Also, if you're looking to unload some of your Savoy titles, PLEASE send me a PM? I'm always open to negotiating deals with fellow board members. Thanks!
  20. I didn't realize they were back on the air till I turned on my internet radio, hit the preset button and out comes music or in this case the sound of drumbeats. Glad to have WKCR back online!!!
  21. Don't forget this one!
  22. I don't know if your wallet would support such a purchase? I thought I would through this out there. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mosaic-MD5-151-The-Complete-Recordings-of-THAD-JONES-MEL-LEWIS-5-CD-JAZZ-LE-/381680666723?hash=item58ddf0c863:g:588AAOSwmtJXXv-5
  23. I don't believe there has been any discussion on this release. I could be wrong. I saw this in an area music store earlier today. Any thoughts? One review on Amazon complained of the sound quality.
