  1. Kenny Barron - New York Attitude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94B_RtOIDlg
  2. Playing in my area August 11. Tickets range from $25 - $66. To be honest, I don't know much of the recent album. I probably should check out some of the online samples before making any sort of decision. I love Chris Potter and never seen him perform prior. What do you smart folks think? Pass or must go?
  3. A very nice session.
  4. I really enjoy Joe Cohn's 2011 release "Fuego".
  5. Boy, don't me started! As a few of the board members already know I've been obsessed with this label for close to a year now. Where do I start? Just about anything Melvin Rhyne recorded on the label is worth owning. I don't believe you'll get much argument from that. Alot of the Walt Weiskopf discs IMO are very good to excellent. Both Kenny Barron self led dates are quite good although I really enjoy "Green Chimneys". The Richard Wyand disc "Half And Half" is very nice. "Pharoah's Children" by J.D. Allen is excellent. The Ralph Lalama dates are all worthy of purchase. More later.
  6. PM on Red Mitchell self titled release on Bethlehem and Earl Hines Plays Duke Ellington.
  7. WBGO in Newark. I seem to find Sundays a good time to listen online when I'm working around the house. I have my Squeezebox Radio in the kitchen.
  8. PM on Shelly Manne "Checkmate".
  9. Thanks guys. Today was low key having had to work in the sweltering heat for nearly 10 hours. My wife made me a very nice dinner. She took me out last night to a real nice restaurant and the night before we were over at our friends house celebrating an early birthday. At this point i think 3 days worth of celebration is enough.

    Tim Warfield

Warfield was (and maybe still is) a member of Stafford's quintet. I saw them live and their music is well worth exploring. I concur with the remark above about Criss Cross. You just jarred my memory. I attended a Stafford show last year and instead of Warfield in the ensemble, Dick Oats sat in.

    Tim Warfield

I first became familiar with his playing via the album "Tough Young Tenors" released back in 1991. It also featured James Carter, Walter Blanding, Herb Harris and Todd Williams. Any thoughts on his solo issues or sideman dates? Anything worth purchasing? I see that Terell Stafford played on a few of his sessions which interests me.
  12. What I've heard through the grapevine relating to the streaming fees which were implemented months back, one of the underwriters who helped pay for the streaming costs in the past is no longer involved in the financing. At least that's what I was told by someone whom I would consider a reliable source.
  13. Funny. The stuff you can learn from this board!
  14. Nothing but good thoughts about Andy Griffith. He seemed like a genuine nice guy.
  15. Happy Birthday, Paps!
  16. Happy Birthday, Bruce.
  17. Nothing but news and talk. Isn't there enough of that crap already?
  18. I was looking forward to there upcoming show in late July at The Falcon but sadly it appears they have been removed from the schedule. Dang.
  19. 16+ years have gone by. Even the most despicable criminal gets a 7 year limitation on crimes other than murder. This is ridiculous. Damn straight. How many times has this guy been investigated/money wasted not even taking into consideration what Lance Armstrong has spent defending his name and nothing has turned up? Total friggin' waste of time if you ask me?

    Joe Cohn

I think Joe adds something special to this Grant Stewart date.

    Joe Cohn

To revive a once dormant thread which at the time received no responses,, I figured perhaps with the passage of time, folks here might have become somewhat more familiar with him. I'm presently listening to his Criss Cross date "Fuego" which sounds pretty darn good. Anyone else out there digging him these days and willing to offer up a few thoughts?

    Gene Quill

Thanks to Allen Lowe for recently recommending this release. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish!
  23. It's a shame that this thread has become something of a debate on the merits of the label, ECM and less so on whether the Kuhn date is a worthy one of purchase which is why I initiated this thread. I own a few of Kuhn's other releases on various labels and get great enjoyment from hearing them. Personally I don't give a shit who is releasing this album, just whether it's a good one or bad one. That's all I care about.
  24. Looks like I stirred up a hornets nest of sorts. To be honest, I'm not that all familiar with the label, except by name. I believe the only other release I own on that label is the Kuhn/Lovano date from a few years back "Mosly Coltrane" which I really enjoy. After listening to the sample tracks on I-Tunes, I'll most likely be picking this one up in the near future. Thanks for the input.
