  1. The winds have gotten stronger as the afternoon has progressed. The lights have flashed a few times and I imagine at some point this evening the power will go out. Hopefully not for too long a period of time he says crossing his fingers. The rain hasn't been too hard if there is one good thing to say. The Post Office closed shortly after 1 this afternoon and I was off the street by noon. At one point when I was still out on my route, I heard a tree crack off in distance and a woosh shortly afterwards. That was alittle scarey.
  2. Well I guess there it makes no sense on further commenting on this thread. Maybe I should just work on Tuesday and ignore all the shit that's going on around me outside.
  3. Happy Birthday, Brownie!
  4. For those outside the U.S. unfamiliar with this storm dubbed "Frankenstorm": Frankenstorm Anyone making preparations for what looks to be a real doosy of a storm? I'm scheduled to be off from work on Tuesday although the boss wants me to work. I don't think so.
  5. I've been interested in this set for awhile but unfortunately way out of my price range at present.
  6. You've all convinced me. Thanks!
  7. Any thoughts on this release? The performances are mostly from 1953.
  8. Happy Birthday, Bill. Wherever you are these days?
  9. Disc 2 Some great music on this collection!
  10. Happy Birthday, John! Here's hoping you have a great day my friend.
  11. Kenny put on a fine show in front of an audience of 100 people last night. I was quite surprised by the large number in attendence being there was very little publicity AFAIK and the fact the town is quite small. The town however does thrive during the winter season because of it's ski resorts. Back to Kenny. I don't how old Kenny is these days? But being there up in years certainly hasn't had much effect on his playing. He was great to watch especially from my aisle seat which was just to the left of Kenny, so I could actually see him perform. Also worth mentioning, there was a post concert reception next door with free champagne which was different. Kenny was there in a private room in back and I was able to slip back with the help of an industry friend who've I've managed to develope a friendship over the past year or so and got to chat briefly with Kenny and had him sign my cd. Definitely a great time was had.
  12. Tonight I'll be seeing Kenny Barron perform solo at a place called the Doctorow Center For the Arts in Hunter, New York. Time 8 PM. Can't wait!
  13. Happy Birthday, TD!
  14. No kidding. If you're like me who didn't come around to Parker early on, you can't do wrong at this price!
  15. Happy Birthday, MG! Hope it was a good one.
  16. Fine work with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the John Fedchock New York Big Band, too. I'm familar as well with his work on Fedchock's Big Band releases on the Reservoir label. They're definitely worth checking out.
  17. Can you imagine spending your New Year's Eve listening to that shit?
  18. For $130 you certainly can't go wrong with both.
  19. I remember growing up, my mom was a big fan. His television show was always on in our house. R.I.P. Andy.
  20. Don't have either. Which would be the best way to proceed?
  21. I've been listening to his album "Stride" and really enjoying it. Any other fans of his work? I realise his main gig is in Jeremy Pelt's band.
  22. I've never really had many issues with Amazon or Amazon Marketplace. Obviously some of the sellers are a little slower getting items shipped to you than others. Movie Mars springs to mind. Those guys are slow! Fortunately, most times anything I've ordered arrives on my doorstep in a week.
  23. Ok, I'm not going to compare these live dates to the Blackhawk sessions. Still pretty good stuff though, especially if you're a big fan of Shelly Manne as I am. I'm glad I finally caved in after many years and got these. Some outstanding playing here by Kamuca.
