  1. In the past I've always preferred Lee and Freddie among others. Kenny was further back in the pack at least for me. My opinion has changed recently with a few acquisitions from his catalogue and especially after listening to this fantastic recording.
  2. Sorry Chris if you took offense. As far as I know you and one other member have left. Hardly what you call an evacuation. If you had an issue, you might have been better served if you took your complaint directly to the guy who runs the forum(The Blindman) instead of starting a thread blasting the poor guy who locked the thread. Who by the way, is one of the nicest guys on the forum and didn't deserve that treatment by any stretch of the imagination. We'll certainly miss your input of course, but life will go on. Good luck in your persuit of finding a new forum.
  3. I just borrowed this recording from a friend and have to say I'm REALLY enjoying this one. The first 5 tracks are especially killer with a heavy latin feel and fine playing by all musicians. Carlos "Potato" Valdes on conga is terrific. Anyone else want to praise this recording?

    JR Monterose

I just borrowed his self titled album(Blue Note) earlier today. This is my first exposure to his playing. Real nice stuff. Any other fans who wish to offer up some thoughts?
  5. Well, I finally got the opportunity today to sit down with the gentleman who lives on my mail route. I have to tell you it was a blast discussing jazz music with him. He must be in his early 80's, has abit difficulty getting around, but really knows his jazz and has a great collection. I was there just over 2 hours. Time just flew! I let him borrow my Horace Parlan and Carmell Jones Mosaics. He's a big fan of Mosaic Records and receives the catalogue regularly so I figured these recording might be to his liking. I noticed he has a Bunny Berigan Mosiac and a few others lying around. In exchange he let me borrow some cds. Very nice guy and I hope we have many opportunities in the future to converse. Overall, it was a great experience guys.
  6. My experience is if they don't come up with your cd(s) within two weeks, they cancel the order. The last time I took advantage of there sale, I received 2 of the 4 discs. Two were placed on backorder. A good time had passed and I wondered of there status. I called there 800 number and that was there response. I wish I knew of this beforehand, since I saw one of the recordings in a store and passed up on purchasing them.
  7. A guy I'm digging more and more these days is James Spaulding. Besides his fine alto work, he sure plays some nice flute. I already have some of his sessions with Freddie Hubbard. Probably a few other albums in my collection which don't come immediately to mind. What are some other recordings worth considering?
  8. Thanks guys for your thoughts. Basically those reviews over on Mosaic concerning the organ playing, made me hesitant to make a purchase. Sounds like I can't go wrong here and of course great price!
  9. I was thinking about taking advantage of there free shipping offer. So it takes 10 - 14 days, it's still a pretty good deal. Has anyone dealt with them more recently and willing to offer further thoughts? I'm looking to bulk up on the OJC's and since the future on these recordings availabilty is shakey at best, I'd like to grab them while I still have the opportunity.
  10. I'm glad to read all the positive reviews here on the Amy Select. I am curious though, I read the reviews on this set on the Mosaic site and the one common complaint is the organ sessions. Quite abit of negativity relating to those sessions. Anyone want to debunk those criticisms?
  11. Is that the solo Hill? It was next on my Select want lists! Already have the first Hill Select. Looking at the catalogue right now and the answer is no. The first set is marked down.
  12. Hey Herb! Happy birthday to you. Hope you had a great day.
  13. Birthday greetings, Chris. Hope today was a fine one.
  14. So what happens to us poor slobs who already own the current receivers? Will they be rendered useless at some point if this merger takes place?
  15. If given the choice I'd rather mow the lawn early on as opposed to later in the day or after dinner. That said, 8 or 9 a.m. is pretty darn early especially on a Sunday. The grass can be pretty wet from the overnight and I just don't feel like dealing with the mower getting constantly clogged with grass. Usually I'll wait to at least 10 a.m.
  16. For those interested, the Donaldson 'Lush Life' release is once again available.

    GUESTS

Funny, this crap must happen in waves. Over at The Blindman's we've been inundated with a large number of 'guests' recently. We set a record not long ago for most people online in a 15 minute period. Something approaching 300.
  18. Glad to see the Turrentine and Griffin release now available. I nearly purchased both the other day while in Barnes and Noble.
  19. What 7/4 meant to add...spin those pedals too Tom! All the best mate. Did you make your ride the other day? Only rode 40 miles on Saturday, Tony. Thanks again fellas.
  20. Awesome stuff guys! Thanks for the best wishes. I'm really proud to belong to the finest jazz forum anywhere. Thanks for having me.
  21. Tony, if you Google 'Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge' and make your way to the right of the bridge. I'll be riding on and off county highway 103. Hope that helps? Let me add if you scan in very closely, just down the road from the bridge you will see a road which runs both left and right. I'll be riding both sides.

    Barry Harris

Many great recommendations here! Any thoughts on this release? I'm on a big Carmell Jones kick recently.
