  1. I have to laugh at some of the commentary here. I certainly can relate. My wife threatens to have a garage sale and sell off my music collection. She doesn't even know about my vinyl collection I keep upstairs in the attic.
  2. I just purchased these 3 from Yourmusic.com before the price increase.
  3. Always loved this album. One of my favorite songs from Quadrophenia is the underplayed "Sea and Sand". A great rockin' track.
  4. I received my shipment a few days ago having ordered 3 discs, but only 1 disc was left in the packaging. Seems like the packaging split open or god forbid someone opened it and helped themselves to the other two. It was taped up with the one selection in tact. Since I work for the Post Office, I immediately sent the shipement back explaining the discs were missing and to reship the order. We'll have to see how long this takes before the new shipment arrives.
  5. I placed Off To The Races/Byrd, Happenings/Hutcherson, Here To Stay/Hubbard and Demon's Dance/McLean in my queue over the weekend. Now comes the hard part. Do I take advantage and make the purchases now before the price increase next month? I've bought quite abit of music recently.
  6. Without a doubt, this was the year of Jackie McLean for me. I purchased at least a half dozen of his Blue Note releases with more in store for the upcoming year. I've yet to pick up a dud.
  7. Good luck, Jim. Avoid the temptation to rush things and please listen to what the doc's tell you.
  8. I heard a pretty horrible version of Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer by Diana Ross and the Supremes earlier this week. I'd never heard there take on this one and hopefully I wont get another opportunity in this lifetime. "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses is somthing that should be jetisoned to the vortex also.
  9. I placed an order for 5 discs on November 16 and they just arrived this past Saturday, December 2. Alittle slow, yes. But in the end, I paid just over $32. You can't complain too much.
  10. Just a brief update. I receive the Carmell Jones select today. Man, that was fast! I placed the order Sunday and it was sitting on my porch this afternoon. It doesn't look like I'll be able to get in any listening tonight since the wife should be home from work shortly. I hope to report back as soon as I can. Very excited about this one.
  11. On the forum I help run, we have nearly 2800 people registered. Of that, just over half have ever posted. Curiously, I notice this forum is also plagued by spammers, porn sites and other crap registering accounts. Usually we end up deleting most of this stuff as I'm sure Jim has to do here on a daily basis.
  12. A lesson learned, Guy. I guess with this being the holiday season, we all should be aware for the potential for this type of nonsense. I'm just releaved it didn't cause any damage.
  13. I just pulled the trigger on this one. I look forward to receiving it hopefully by the end of the week and will post my impressions then. Sounds like I can't go wrong here.
  14. I just wanted to give you guys a headsup. Some idiot claiming to be a 'family member' just sent me an email from egreetings.com. I went to open the attachment and my Anti Virus software program went off detecting a virus. I was able to delete it before it caused any damage. If you receive an email, the best bet would be delete it immediately. I don't know who the frig would do this, but I'm not happy.

    Pepper Adams

I'm presently listening to Donald Byrd's "Byrd In Hand" which features some fine playing of Pepper Adams. This is really a very nice album all around. Up to this point I don't believe I have anything that features the playing of Adams besides the other issue I own, Byrd's "Royal Flush". I'm really digging his stuff. So the question lies, what else can you recommend for me of Pepper Adams? As always I appreciate the input. Thanks.
  16. No reason for me to change. I mean, you still can't go wrong at 6.99. This might be an opportunity for me to save a few bucks and make a few purchases that have been piling up in my queue recently.
  17. Man this is without a doubt one of my favorite jazz albums, period. Great cast lead by JJ, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Jordan, Cedar Walton, Arthur Harper and Albert "Tootie" Heath. Recorded in 1960 and available on the SONY label. Great playing and excellent sound. It does cost some extra bucks to pick this one up, but well worth it, IMO. Anyone else here love this album as much as I do?
  18. See here. Oh sweet! Thanks for info. Ron. Yes, I'm already a member of yourmusic.com It never occured to me to look on there website. Thanks for the input fellas and keep adding your thoughts if you're inclined.
  19. Hi guys. I realise we have a number of classical music fans on this forum. So I figured it was worth the effort to post here on this forum. I'm presently listening to Arthur Rubinstein's performances of Chopin. "Ballades, Scherzos and Tarantelle" on the RCA Red Seal label recorded in the late 1950's. The performances are awesome and the sonics, incredible. Now I realise, some of his best performances are on his earlier recordings. That said, at the moment I'm interested in his later recordings strictly because of the sonics. So play along with me for the moment and through out a few recommendations for his later recordings which in your mind are still worthy performances. Thanks.
  20. Outlived Elvis Presley by 1373 days. Coming up in 44 days I'll match John F. Kennedy and in 245 Judy Garland.(damn)
  21. While I haven't been officially diagnosed, for the same reasons you've already site I would make a good candidate. Alot of times I find myself asking people to repeat things. I lay in bed at night to the sound of my ears ringing. Too much loud music over the yrs. without a doubt. Even with that said, do I ever think it would be a great idea to turn down the volume? Why of course not! When I'm home alone and the wife is out working, there's a good chance I'm cranking out the tunes here.
  22. I have a couple of those albums and at some point today, play them in his memory. RIP Robert.
  23. Marin couple calls for global orgasm for peace MARCUS WOHLSEN Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO - Two peace activists have planned a massive anti-war demonstration for the first day of winter. But they don't want you marching in the streets. They'd much rather you just stay home. The Global Orgasm for Peace was conceived by Donna Sheehan, 76, and Paul Reffell, 55, who live together on a houseboat along scenic Tomales Bay in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. Their immodest goal is for everyone in the world to have an orgasm on December 22 while focusing on world peace. "The orgasm gives out an incredible feeling of peace during it and after it," Reffell said on Sunday. "Your mind is like a blank. It's like a meditative state. And mass meditations have been shown to make a change." The couple are no strangers to sex and social activism. Sheehan, no relation to fellow Northern California anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, brought together nearly 50 women in 2002 who stripped naked and spelled out the word "Peace" on a grassy hillside in Marin County. The stunt spawned a mini-movement called Baring Witness that led to similar unclothed demonstrations worldwide. The couple have studied evolutionary psychology and believe that war is mainly an outgrowth of men trying to impress potential mates, a case of "my missile is bigger than your missile," as Reffell put it. By promoting what they hope to be a synchronized global orgasm, they hope to get people to channel their sexual energy into something more positive. "Religion, science, art, medicine - you name any great accomplishment that the human race has made and none of it has stopped war and aggression," Sheehan said. "We thought, 'What's the next unbelievable, untested biological gift that we've all been given?' The orgasm." Interest in participating appears strong, according to the couple. They reported receiving 26,000 visitors a day to their Web site thanks to links from several blogs. Sheehan said she received "a soulful letter from a man in Istanbul" who lamented that because he lacked a partner, he couldn't take part. They assured him that there were no rules for when, where or how the orgasm was achieved, as long as it was on the given day, she said. "It's basically what ever turns you on," Reffell said. Participants can identify one another through the "secret signal," according to the Global Orgasm Web site, of a thumb and forefinger shaped to form the letter O. The one guideline Sheehan and Reffell do encourage everyone to follow is to practice safe sex and use birth control, citing overpopulation as a source of many of the world's woes. Reffell said the couple hopes to coordinate with the New Jersey-based Global Consciousness Project to measure the impact of the Global O. The experiment, directed by a Princeton University scientist, claims that the psychic energy of many people worldwide focusing on the same event, like Princess Diana's funeral or the Olympics, can create patterns in otherwise random lists of numbers generated by computers. Still, documenting the Global O's possible effects is not the main focus. "The dream is to have everyone in the world (take part)," Reffell said. "And if that means laying down your gun for a few minutes, then hey, all the better." ON THE NET http://www.globalorgasm.org
