  1. more than before
  2. I think they have seen the light - used jazz is a good walk-in business. They know the content pretty well, and the end-to-end variety is terrific, much better than Academy. They have 300-400 discs in their used jazz bin now, about 5x the usual size. Everything I saw was $2.99 (e.g. Three Blind Mice vol. 2), up to $7.99 per disc (e.g. Woody Shaw Bemsha Swing $9.99). Great selection, I am going back!
  3. I would try to get distribution with Zappa.com, Dead.net, and Downtown Music Gallery (dtmgallery.com), all fertile hunting ground for electic musical tastes. What about Dusty Groove? I would forget most all retail, other than J&R (NYC) and Amoeba (Calif.), both get nice volume of tourists hungry for jazz product.
  4. for trade or $30 cash + mailing costs, or a heads up lead to a new arrivals used bin. So many discs here on the shelves, but so little Woody. Thanks, Dan
  5. '94 Walsh (Conn) or '00 "Rudy" (RVG), any strong opinions here? wish i could shop for vintage vinyl for this, but no. thanks for any help
  6. Thanks all, I got one at Jazz Record Center for $15.
  7. I'll offer a backup bid for Cornbread and Swangin'.
  8. A late 70s/80s low-end Thorens might be an idea, those will track anything.
  9. Ok got it thanks. I'll mark High Frequency down in the "serious oversight" column of my reissue scorecard. And from what I have read, EMI is all done with its glorious near 20 year run of Blue Note CD reissuance? Maybe Mosaic will would do it in their single series... I will search for an old thread here but if anybody wants to post or PM me, I want to read up on the McLean SteepleChase era. There has to be some gold and silver nuggets in there.
  10. What is left unissued to the "mass" market from the Mosaic box? I don't own the box, only a burn, and I have to say, I would agree with all im-modest assessments of this product/project/box, the music alone seems near the top of all jazz reissued on CD these past twenty years. It's very cohesive in terms of drive and breakout style. Is the Mosaic booklet especially good too? Thanks
  11. I credit my time on walkman headphones listening to electric Miles with taking me all over the place. I think my big ears are more the result of repeated listening to Big Fun, Bitches Brew, and Miles 1969 than any other experience. What I remember most is getting gradually into Funkadelic, Parliament, and James Brown. Then I craved funk anthologies, aggressive guitar-driven noise (e.g Bailey, Kaiser) and good fusion (e.g. OM). Yes lately, the electric Miles bug means any and all Leo Wadada Smith, especially solo multitracked sessions such as Kulture Jazz. I didn't really care for Yo Miles years ago when I jumped on it. I put it on 2-3 weeks ago, still did not care for it.
  12. Thanks, if any of you should spot one. Cash or trade. Thanks, Dan
  13. attaboy Rolf. To be clear: obi's are NOT JUST FOR ASSHOLES, ok? let's help one another. I may have JRVG obis for Adam's Apple and The Connection, if I do you can have them. Won't be home til sunday though.... Cheers
  14. "Collectors are just that and little more" What does that mean? Audience here is listeners, and astute listeners at that. I think we know our way around Blue Note product, and nobody asserts gospel here, except of course if we are talking speaker cable, wine, and the "marketplace", where the RVG editions trade for $6-8 (you go music lovers!), JRVGs go for $12-15, and the TOCJs goes for $15-20, usually.
  15. Louisville 6/18/74 Incredible dynamics. Great songs, powerful performance. Never more in control of their style than on that day, as far as I know. This is the one to check out if you wonder what the mid 70s fuss was about, post hippie era.
  16. I have seen new and used TOCJ Works editions of Tina Brooks' Back to the Tracks and Tony Williams' Spring in the past few days. Are there strong +/- feelings as to how these rate compared to the Conn and the JRVGs? I have the JRVG of each, no complaints, but I must admit I really enjoy the relaxed tone of the TOCJs I already own. (I am punting on Capuchin Swing and Blakey Mosaic JRVGs in favor of new TOCJs....) I'd appreciate any of your informed whispers or rants on the Brooks and Williams. Thanks, Dan
  17. We normally like to get to know you a bit, maybe go sit in the steam with you, get some chinese food and hear about your life and troubles before we buy your shit. Post about your favorite or least favorite records, maybe some light politics in the meantime. Takes a few weeks, it'll go by quickly don't worry. Then you're in. You got a lot of shit?
  18. AEC, Leo Smith, Bobby Bradford, and John Stevens. In my wheelhouse, though it's really Nessa hitting for the cycle here though. Thanks Chuck for caring.
  19. I am searching for 4 titles by this trio: Mosaic Plays Standards Estonia and Lithuania Live Cafe 9.15 Cash or I have lots to trade. A rifle shot in the dark no less. Thanks for any help. Also, I am looking any leads on their homemade DVD series (from club dates I believe), I think there were twelve. Uchihashi (lead guitarist) doesn't answer email, and his website is dead, no way to order the goodies shown. ReR and DMG say that they are in touch with him periodically, so I am hopeful. Cheers. Dan
  20. I'll go for the True Blue. Thanks, Dan
  21. PM sent (hail mary trade offer)
  22. I paid a bribe once to a record store owner w/ the obi from Who's Crazy. Well worth it. I need $$ too, but I don't think I can sell my Ornette discs. Everyday though I'm thinking what has to go, and what gets to stay. Tough times.
  23. Clueless, venal monopolist. Ugly aim is to "preserve" ZPZ's touring market opportunity. Have you checked out insane ZFT pricing for Frank's archival material?
  24. Are you looking for anything in trade?
  25. I convey in friendly terms/tone: you are taking a very unlikely rifle shot with this approach. In ten-plus years, I have never come across the missing disc to my Woody Shaw set. Partial sets (w/ CDRs, albeit illegitimate, of missing material), and "parts" can get good prices in the used market; there is good value in collectible boxes and booklets even in a digital music world. Then spend your time looking for complete sets; wasn't the Capitol offered on this board this week? good luck, Dan Yes, that was the first place I looked. Scott Wenzel was out of each. Thanks for the suggestion.
