  1. Hip hep happy birthday!
  2. Here's the playlist for today's tribute to bassist Butch Warren, along with the continuing October feature of Sarah Vaughan's Roulette recordings: http://indianapublicmedia.org/justyouandme/2013-10-08/
  3. Two brick-and-mortar storefronts: Luna Music in Indianapolis at 52nd and College, and Landlocked Music in Bloomington at 6th and Walnut. I also prowl the used sections of a couple of other stores in both cities. I also buy online, almost always through Amazon.
  4. Up for broadcast and taking jazz requests at 812-855-2087 or johnsond@indiana.edu.
  5. I'll be featuring some music from David Weiss's new tribute to Wayne Shorter, Endangered Species, on Just You and Me this afternoon from 3:30 to 5 p.m. EST. It's "Live And By Request" day on the show, so if any Organissimo posters want to phone in a request around that time, just give me a call at 812-855-2087, and I'll see if I can get it on the air. (Between the CDs and the vinyl, we have a pretty good library here.) Link to listen online is here: http://indianapublicmedia.org/radio/ I'll up the thread right before broadcast. Here's the playlist for yesterday's show: http://indianapublicmedia.org/justyouandme/2013-10-01/ The format for the show is new music on Monday, classic jazz on Tuesday, live recordings and jazz requests on Wednesday, and Indiana jazz (past and present) on Thursday.
  6. Beautiful moment when Joe Girardi sent Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte out to remove Mo Rivera from his final game: http://wapc.mlb.com/nyy/play/?content_id=30965689&topic_id=vtp_best_moments&game_pk=undefined Three future Hall of Famers right there, and three of the best who ever put on a Yankee uniform. Thanks, guys... 18 years went by all too quickly.
  7. Up a day late for the anniversary of John Gilmore's birth: http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/away-from-the-spaceways-john-gilmore/

  10. Posting this recently-aired Afterglow show today in honor of singer Herb Jeffries' 100th birthday... he's the last surviving member of Duke Ellington's "Blanton-Webster" band: http://indianapublicmedia.org/afterglow/herb-jeffries/
  11. All the best, relyles!
  12. Just ordered this recently and haven't received it yet, but it looks promising and perhaps right up your friend's alley: http://www.amazon.com/Music-Inspired-Great-Gatsby/dp/B00CUG09BW/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1379897362&sr=1-1&keywords=music+inspired+by+the+great+gatsby
  13. Just finished listening to Coltrane's FEARLESS LEADER and now on disc 5 of Artie Shaw's SELF-PORTRAIT (great overview of his career, if you can still find it for a reasonable price).

  16. The Berigan is out and sounds wonderful: http://www.hepjazz.com/hep_jazz_artist_biographies/bunny_berigan.html
  17. I don't normally post Afterglow shows here, but I thought this one might be of interest to some board members: http://indianapublicmedia.org/afterglow/beatles-sing-standards/ ...mostly drawn from post-breakup solo records, although there are several by the group itself in there as well.
  18. Last week's Night Lights show, featuring music from concerts recorded on college campuses in the 1950s (Dave Brubeck, Bud Shank, George Shearing and others) is now up for online listening: http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/jazz-college/
  19. Happy birthday to the original GHF!
  20. Just finished Season 2 of The West Wing earlier this evening.
  21. Donation made. I've been revisiting Coltrane's Prestige leader sessions, working on some programs, and happily checking in on the board again in the past hour. (When I saw the link to this thread in the "We're back" posting, I thought maybe Jim had tried a real hard-knuckled, pull-the-plug-for-24-hours approach to fundraising... ) Haven't been as active for the past couple of years because of big life changes, but this place will always be my Internet home. Thanks again to Jim and the moderators and all youse guys for helping to tend the board's unique flame.
