  1. I agree, a very pleasant surprise when it came out.
  2. Horace Silver; Silver's Serenade. Japanese Toshiba issue.
  3. John Paul Jones by James Clay, from I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart (Antilles)
  4. Sorry to hear this bad news. He was superb on those classic Russell discs.
  5. I've used an external Soundblaster card via USB to DIN converters to reasonably good effect porcy. It seems to function best with the internal MC boards still in situ in the pre-amp. Good results at 24 bit/96 kHz. I have an onboard soundblaster so I can confirm what Sidewinder says. It does just about everthing I need. In fact I just run a lead from my headphone socket. Works extremely well for me.
  6. We've not had a volunteer since October last year. I'm happy to continue to maintain the lists and keep an eye on things as long as you folks want to keep the thread going. So just a reminder, if you want to nominate a record please do so. It's best to let me know in advance just in case of an over abundance of suggestions and to make sure it gets on the master list. A pm is all that is needed.
  7. Lord says the same as jazzdisco.
  8. Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition; Inflation Blues, ECM
  9. Dvd; Rescue Dawn.
  10. What Sidewinder says. Good luck
  11. How is the King pressing of this one John? (I think I know what the answer is..) Splendid - but it's the only issue I've heard!
  12. Most of the pressings I had were early review copies sent out to meet publishing deadlines. Many were without notes and covers, though some had the notes pasted to the inner sleeve.
  13. The Spotlite set is in good sound. There are three tracks tagged on the end and I recall these being inferior. need to play the disc to make sure though
  14. Yes, I have a test pressing of Smokstack. I posted a photo in another topic. I had several others over the years, all UK issues. These were given to me journalist and broadcaster I was good friends with at the time. Some were two single sided pressings. Most have been disposed of by now.
  15. Stil digging Blue Note vinyl, Clifford Jordan; Cliff Craft and then Jutta Hipp with Zoot Sims Both Japanese King pressings
  16. I think it's very unlikely to be Philly Joe, I doubt if he qualified for a union card. Jack Parnell was probably only wielding the baton at this time. edited for typo
  17. Pete La Roca; Basra. BN Japanese King
  18. Jackie McLean; Swing Swang Swingin'; BN, Japanese King.
  19. How about John Coltrane Black Spirit John Coltrane First true born
  20. Could be, other possibles Ronnie Verrell or Kenny Clare.
  21. Time to play some JJ then!
  22. Chico Hamilton Quintet in HiFi. UK Vogue pressing. Excellent sound, inevitably some surface noise on this fifty year old record
  23. I dispensed with mine. I had the Coltrane tracks on cd but the Kuhn side didn't do much for me.
  24. I had several of these, Jarman, Mitchell and others. Looks like a US jacket but a UK pressing inside. No idea who handled these in the UK. Esquire was long gone when these came out.
