  1. Sorry to see Chris go, it all seems a bit unnecessary to me.
  2. This looks like an important session that has somehow escaped me!
  3. Early 60s? Yes. The two lou Blackburn albums are Two Nite Samba and the other one on Imperial are from 62 (IIRC) : both with tpt Freddie Hill and Horace Tapscott IIRC/2). Fine session, reissued on CD o with the title : Perception (anothe reissue on "blue note") Fine music. Quite tough to find on original issue. Yes, I have the cd. I thought I might dispose of the vinyl. Shame it's not in better shape. It could well be an original stereo issue but I've never seen another copy or another Imperial album for that matter,
  4. Lou Blackburn; Two Note Samba. Imperial. It's pretty beat up but mostly listenable. Not sure what vintage it is.

    RIP-Dave Burns

Sad news. Underated, interesting and not currently well represented on cd.
  6. Randy Weston; Blue Moses. CTI (UK pressing)
  7. Bley's Ida Lupino is one of my favourite solo piano pieces as well as being a great tune. Can't say that the Jarrett piece had much effect on me, though to be fair I've not played it in a while.
  8. Happy Birthday Claude

    Bud Shank R.I.P.

So sad. I'ved loved his playing since I was a teenager. One of my first buys was one of his quartet albums on PJ (UK Vogue). It's still one of my favourite records. Fortunately I got see him live in the UK some years ago. Thanks for the music Bud.
  10. You wont be disappointed.
  11. Just watched Madmen, we are in the middle of season two over here.
  12. Enjoyed the documentary. It was pitched about right for the tv audience but didn't talk down to the jazz fan. The Diz Jazz 625 was well worth seeing. I'd forgotten about a lot of the on stage showmanship. Musically it ws fine, especially Moody's flute feature. Interesting to see the Brubeck Quartet but that's about all, nothing memorable happened.
  13. Archie Shepp; The House I Live In. From Shepp/Lars Gullin Quintet on SteepleChase. Recorded in 1963 when Shepp was in Europe with the NYC5.
  14. Archie Shepp and Lars Gullin; The House I Live In. SteepleChase
  15. Jack Dejohnette; Special Edition. The first one with Arthur Blythe and David Murray. Old and New Dreams
  16. No luck in Lord either. Sorry
  17. I can listen to them all, except Braxton, and enjoy them to varying degrees. Braxton's a blind spot. Don't here him doing much, even on the odd straight ahead album.
  18. Freddie Hubbard; Straight Life. CTI Euro pressing
  19. Have a good one.
  20. Roger Beaujolais Quartet. Imo the UKs best vibraphone player. Plays a lot of Blue Note pieces you don't here from anywhere else.
  21. I'm going going to have to play this one again. I'm sorry to say it didn't grab me as much as it did some of you guys the last time around.
  22. Happy Birthday Jazzjet.
  23. Freddie Hubbard; Straight Life. CTI (UK pressing)
  24. Freddie Hubbard; Red Clay. CTI, UK pressing
