  1. I rather like the CTI sides. The last time I saw Freddie was with the basic 'Keep Your Soul Together' quintet. Lovely music, great evening.
  2. I played Empyrean Isles a day or two ago. He's pretty damn good there.
  3. Such sad news. Thanks for everything Freddie. I'll always remember fondly seeiing you at Ronnie Scott's.
  4. They used to have two or three pages of jazz record reviews by good reviewers years ago. If accessible should make good reading now.
  5. MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE
  6. My first choice would be the Art Farmer single.
  7. Playing Open Sesame now, prompted by this topic and the JR article.
  8. I haven't been tp Brecon for four or five years, the recent dismal lineups has done nothing to encourage me to go.
  9. We probably have the Euro edition!
  10. Albert Ayler at the LSE - I'm happy to report I was there. Totally unforgetable. What sticks in the mind is Albert's sound, astonishing. Yes the session was wiped, apparently broadcast was vetoed by Bill Cotton Jr and the tape reused. Reusing tape was a common practice in those days.
  11. Mine's okay but I've had it for quite a while.
  12. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/diglib/ihas/html/jot...creen-home.html Have you tried this.
  13. Last evening Matt Wates Sextet.
  14. I've just played the Interplay sessions for the first time in.. quite a while. I actually enjoyed the Zoot date more despite the fact it was said be be fraught with problems. Bill digs in on the Hubbard date especially and I guess that may be due to Phily Joe's presence.

    Prince Lasha RIP

This is very sad news. I've always been a big admire of his two Enja albums. Will have to play them later.
  16. I remember liking this but like Lon, I need to revisit it too.
  17. Many Happy Returns Jim.
  18. That's a great one! One to dig out and dust off right away!
  19. Smithville by Louis Smith. Difficult to pick out an individual track as Smith's playing is remarkable all the way through. Nice Rouse and a fabulous rhythm section.
  20. According to David Murray, James Spaulding plays on Its a Wonderful World.
  21. Sonny Stitt; Don't Call Me Bird. Fresh Sound ex Verve. Tracks from Saxophone Supremacy and Swings the Blues.
  22. I'm with you entirely here. If's on Blue Note and it has alternates then I usually want it. Like you I'm something of a completist. So over the years a lot of my vinyl has gone. But then I'm still completely happy with the remaining vinyl.
  23. Here's an hour long concert recording of MTO for anyone interested npr jazz Thanks for the link. Interesting to hear once or maybe see live, but I don't think I'd want to hear it again.
  24. Original deep groove, John? Damn - sounds like I hit these stores 10-15 years too late :rsmile: 'Fraid not. It was a late pressing but still very hard to come by.
