  1. My younger daughter was watching Noggin the other day and Little Bill (the Bill Cosby production) came on and the dad was playing 'bebop' records with what looked like 'Dizzy Gillespie' on one of the covers and talking about Charlie Parker.
  2. I agree with this chart. Its very subjective and not everyone is going to agree on what's great and what's not, e.g., recall the 'Why I hate Miles Davis' thread here a couple of years back. To each his own.
  3. If that disco album came out in 1978, I'd swear you were talkin' bout McLean here!
  4. I like it too, although I never had the OJC to compare it with.
  5. Shit! They got old; I thought it was just me... Saw a special on the History Channel last night called Woodstock: Now and Then that featured a segment on this couple...and yes they got old!
  6. Wow! Big fan of Watkins, especially the BN 10inchers. Too bad I don't live anywhere near Seattle. I see that one of the presenters, Patrick Smith, has an upcoming book on Watkins. That could be a very interesting read. Does anyone know anything about Patrick Smith? Is this his first book?
  7. Ugh, Murray's going to tank! Me thinks.
  8. Yeah, if I know Murray well enough, either he's going to tank or he'll pull it out.
  9. Nadal, then, is no. three?
  10. You have coverage??? Well, I would've been watching that if I had the proper channel to watch it on!!! Del Potro won four titles last year during the US Open series, so I'm not surprised he's doing well this year too. I think the man's surface is hardcourt period. But yes, I agree with you too. Del Potro has a great shot at this grandslam title; he will give any of the top players a run for their money. The competition is held in my hometown,so tv from here broadcasts it, you are aware that by digging a bit you can find webcasts online. You're one lucky cat. But, concerning webcasts, I have the ATP website saved in my favorites and they're not very useful. I'm all ears (or eyes, if you will ) for suggestions.

  12. Just bought this in Chicago a couple of weeks ago and I just popped it in the player tonight and decided to read this thread too, but I totally lost track of what I was reading after pager three, as this music just overwhelmed me. WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it took me this long to come around and buy this. What the hell was I thinking? I feel so fortunate to have this rare opportunity to hear a an engagement like this! Thanks to Chuck and everyone else that helped deliver this to the public. I mean, I can't say it as well as Jim and others who've commented on this cd, but Jesus, I am BLOWN away! Diz and Parker are incredible! Al Haig is doing some crazy shit here too. And I agree about Sid Catlett. He's playing a kit like its Blakey or Blackwell. I didn't really know who he was, but he's not old school. Just some thoughts. But man, this is some amazing stuff!
  13. He worked with the Replacements? Didn't know that. Was it at Twin Tone? That was the Replacements best work! RIP.
  14. Amen, because that's all we got! And my 'local' store is nearly 150 miles away to boot!
  15. Yeah, my ears are perked!
  16. Problem solved: ate my wife's leftovers from when she went out to eat with her girlfriend tonight
  17. Dunno Open for suggestions. McDonald's? Tube steaks perhaps?

    Rashied Ali

Another album where he made an impression on me was Marion Brown's "Quartet" on ESP w/Alan Shorter and Bennie Maupin. Great percussion there.
  19. Have a good one SS!
  20. Did you finish the shirt? BTW, Here to Stay is a very nice Hubbard Date. Now drinking French vanilla coffee.
  21. A pity about the Green. On the other hand, I'd like to know what does exist in their archives.
  22. Cabbage rolls and a salad.
  23. Re-run of the office where Michael's paper company is purchased by Dundar Mifflin, and Ryan and Pam get saleman positions. Funny stuff!
