  1. Don't think I saw these recommended but "Live at the Jazz Workshop Complete" and "Monk In Tokyo" are fine live Columbias, if you can find them at decent prices. And another for Monk's Dream, my favorite Columbia studio album. I also would recommend Monk's excellent "Piano Solo" from 1954 on Vogue and "Monk Alone" on Columbia too.
  2. Corned Beef and Cabbage with broccoli.
  3. An Evening with Kevin Smith Vol. I
  4. William Parker's-Foundation I w/ Hamid Drake on Painter's Spring. I think Hamid makes this album as much as the leader.
  5. Alan Silva is going to blow you away on this one! Found used today for $8 : Art Blakey-Meet at the Jazz Corner of the World! Great value, considering its OOP now.
  6. You're not kidding! I can't keep it out of my player! The first track, Foundation No. 1, with just Hamid Drake and Parker opening is just incredible.
  7. Cooper-Moore fan. Wish a show like that would come to Cleveland.
  8. Just got back from the 10:15 showing and I agree with both RDK and Alexander's reviews. I thought Christoph Waltz (Col. Hans Landa) did a phenomenal job. I mean, who can actually play such an evil Nazi, and be so funny and likable? My favorite scene had to be in the Tavern. Classic Tarantino!
  9. Got tix for the 10:15 showing tonight!
  10. My opinion is that I would like to see Concord do for the Red Garland sessions that produced half of this album and all of ALL MORNIN' LONG, HIGH PRESSURE, and SOUL JUNCTION what they're doing for the upcoming Miles/Sonny Prestige recordings. Those two sessions that produced those 3-1/2 records fit nicely on two CDs. Unless, of course, Concord is finally going to get around to releasing the third and final Trane box. I won't hold my breath for either, though.... As for the album itself, it certainly lives up to its title, even if it does skimp on the quantity of music (certainly not the quality!) Thanks Big Al. Of course I just reposted this question over in the Red Garland on Prestige thread, so never mind that.
  11. I posted this question over in the upcoming Concord reissues but I'll ask here: what's the opinion on Dig it? Thanks, HG
  12. Nice Niko! Those are on the top of my want list too
  13. Anybody know what location that is?
  14. Same with the "MILES" cover going from blue to green.
  15. I think he also designed and or did the photography for Earthy too:
  16. Sneak Preview? Well, I work for Universal. Oh didn't know that, nice! You have my wife's dream job.
  17. Used store that I don't frequent often must've had some jazz fan desperate for money, because he (she) dumped a bus-load of RVG's all for under $8 bucks a pop and few other extra goodies laying around: Blue Mitchell-Boss Horn (glad to nab this one since its now OOP) Art Taylor-A.T.'s Delight Jackie McLean-Bluesnik Jackie McLean-Alto Madness-Prestige/OJC Art Blakey-Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World Art Blakey-Big Beat Art Blakey-Mosaic Spontaneous Music Orchestra-Mouthpiece-Emanem (for $5!) William Parker Trio-Painter's Spring-Thirsty Ear Paul Bley-Open to Love-ECM (the original cd issue) And there was a ton I left behind because I ran out of money!
  18. I have to say that I am looking forward to both the Monk and Rollins. Anybody have an opinion on the Garland?
  19. Stanley Turrentine and the Three Sounds-Complete Blue Hour-Blue Note Kenny Burrell-Midnight Blue-Blue Note Bill Evans-Explorations-Riverside The Swingin' Guitar of Tal Farlow-Verve
