  1. What unbelievably sharp ears Woody had. He identified practically every musician! Thanks for posting all these DB articles, JSngry.
  2. Gasol out in the first quarter with an ankle injury. The Lakers could drop an amazing amount of places in the standings on a tough road trip without the big man.
  3. Happy Birthday, Conrad!
  4. Priceless! It DOES sound funny when you isolate that part, but this label caters to soundtrack people primarily. Considering this is an obscure film scored by a guy who did only two soundtracks, it's pretty remarkable that they chose to release this. I didn't know the Flying Spaghetti Monster reviewed film scores.
  5. I take it Chris prefers this Q... The version of "Summer In The City" under Quincy's name is one of my all-time favorites.
  6. I won't deny that others travel, but it at least they make it look pretty good at full speed. They're usually like the two-and-a-half step variety, in rhythm. Hell, Jordan used to walk all over the place. But the play I'm talking about LeBron took like four steps, on a game-winner. In the playoffs. You'll notice it never gets shown as one of his highlights, despite being about the biggest bucket he's made so far.
  7. You can't look past the willingness of the NBA to help LeBron succeed in the playoffs. Who can forget the obvious travel which the officials failed to whistle on a playoff-game winning basket? I didn't even mention Denver, who has been playing respectable ball lately.
  8. I look at how tight things are out West and it looks wide open. The way Houston is playing, they look like they can beat anyone but I still think the favorite is San Antonio. The Spurs are too solidly composed for playoff basketball for other teams to deal with. The Suns could still surprise teams, the last two games they've looked like they've figured out how to play with Shaq. The Lakers are offensively potent but defensively weak. On top of that there's still the Warriors, Jazz, Hornets, and Mavs to consider. Out East, I think the Cavs and Celtics can definitely beat the Pistons, but I'd agree Detroit is the favorite. Orlando isn't a pushover with Howard manning the paint, and Turkoglu has been playing well. Should be a great playoffs!
  9. After two hours I'd be concerned, two days and it would be an emergency. Two years? WTF?!!?
  10. We've got plenty of folks who are chubs right here in LA. Some people never put down the fork in time.
  11. My Uncle Bob had this happen to him. Horribly painful, from what I'm told.
  12. In bed by 11pm, up at 6am, at work by 7am. Weekends up later, sleep in until about 8am.
  13. I could see Stanford surprising a lot of teams in the tournament. Those two big galoofs they have keep getting better and better.
  14. While I'll agree UCLA has gotten some pretty lucky calls/non-calls to help them win a few games, the Pac 10 officiating has been universally poor. In both the Stanford and the Cal game there were numerous bad calls which went against the Bruins early on before bad calls went in their favor late. The Bruins' long lapses on offense will likely result in an early exit from the tournament.
  15. Happy Birthday!

  17. I've definitely felt the same way, wondering what I might be missing. I imagine there are certainly moments for musician listeners where the audio experience combined with the knowledge of what was required to produce those sounds results in a level of pleasure which I am unable to attain.
  18. I watched that Rockets game last night, they're definitely playing well as a unit. Alston has really turned into a solid pro, and Scola is a versatile big man who knows how to share the ball and find open shooters. McGrady's healthy and just impossible to guard. Battier harrasses scorers on the defensive end and will knock down threes if left alone. They've got young guys off the bench contributing too. They're no joke.
  19. From the opposing perspective, I've never played an instrument outside fiddling around with a guitar a few times. So, my perspective on listening to music is strictly based on comparing songs. I know when I like music, and I know when I don't like music. Obviously it isn't based on understanding technique, but with listening mileage I do have a sense of what virtuoso instrumental talent sounds like. In my opinion, there is a universal beauty present in good music which everyone has the intrinsic ability to appreciate, so long as the willingness to listen is there. That said, it's no accident that my tastes lean toward music which is heavy on melody and rhythm as opposed to music which abandons those aspects. I do not allow extraneous aspects such as popularity or genre barriers to influence what I choose to enjoy.
  20. The Suns look out of sync and out of sorts without Marion. I'm enjoying every minute of it.
  21. It's not whiskey, MG. It's beer, and not good beer.
  22. Damn, Billy Dee was one smooth operator. Stocks the fridge with Colt 45 for the ladies, classy.
