Satisfying comeback victory over the Sactown Queens last night for the Lakers. The Queens were up ten most of the game and were really huffing and puffing and thumping their chests. Down seven with five minutes left, the Lakers went on a 20-5 run capped off by a breakaway 360 dunk by Kobe.

This got rave reviews in an earlier thread here, and I always meant to pick it up.

I like Norah's music in small doses. I have two of her albums. She has a nice voice. Let each individual poster stand for his own posts. If there's one way to offend people, it's to paint them with a broad brush and make them guilty by association. I'm sure if Norah had stuck around she would have found more than enough posters to relate to and share thoughts with in a civil manner.

The heartfelt respect and admiration for many female jazz artists expressed by the members of this forum dispells any boys' club mentality as the reason for criticism directed at Norah Jones. One need only search for threads about Mary Lou Williams or Shirley Scott or Carla Bley or Dorothy Ashby or June Christy...the ladies clearly get respect here when respect is due. Sure, we're mostly dudes and dudes will be dudes, but sexism doesn't play a role in the way we listen.

It's pretty telling about this sad sports "rivalry" that Giants fans have to dig up something this old for ammunition against the Dodgers. Both teams have stunk up the diamond for what seems like the entirety of my adult life. Now the Giants fans are lashing out in the wake of their hero Bonds being raked over the coals of the steroid scandal... One would be hard-pressed to find a bigger nerd in the history of major league baseball than Orel Hershiser.

Ouch. I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing. The 80s were an ugly time.
