  1. I have their album Stormin', it's got a few decent tracks. Cheesey lyrics, very much in the disco funk vein. Multiple singers, sort of a latter day Sly & The Family Stone feel but not as good. Strong drumming, certainly.
  2. Welcome home, DFish.
  3. Yeah, not enough to put them over the top, and now they've spent too heavily to acquire Lewis which will hamstring their efforts to add depth.
  4. The Lakers have never had anybody who could guard Rashard well, he can definitely shoot the ball. Howard draws attention in the middle. They'll make for a tough tandem on offense.
  5. Hehehehe, he called Sal chewy. Welcome, JWC!
  6. One day he'll be introduced as Hall Of Famer Ichiro Suzuki.
  7. Saves a step, SS1!
  8. Horace Silver - Silver's Serenade Lou Donaldson - Lush Life Dexter Gordon - Gettin' Around Dexter Gordon - A Swingin' Affair Donald Byrd - The Cat Walk
  9. Happy Birthday, kiddo!
  10. Someone digitize the whole shebang and make it a continuous internet radio show. Who's got some free time?
  11. Happy Birthday Guy!
  12. How 'bout the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangste?
  13. My neighbor Steve likes jazz and listens to it occasionally in his car. He doesn't collect and I've never discussed jazz with him, though.
  14. I'm a little biased because I've yet to hear a Lee Morgan album I didn't like. My favorites are Search For The New Land, The Gigolo, and Live At The Lighthouse. After that it's just varying shades of greatness.
  15. Man, I dig when the bad ass MFers on these Lee Morgan albums "go through the motions." "Ill Wind" is "going through the motions?" I'll buy The Rajah in whatever reissue I see it in.
  16. BJ's in Burbank makes a mean pie. They're also a microbrewery.
  17. I like it, SS1. The tune "Music To Watch Girls By" is a classic. My favorite Willie Bobo stuff is on the Talkin' Verve compilation, including the tune "Dreams" from Juicy. His versions of "Evil Ways" and "Fried Neckbones & Some Home Fries" are not to be missed. Willie's "Night Walk" is good, but the Joe Torres version is the best one I've heard. Bobo also made some funkier material on Lost And Found and Do What You Want To Do, but I don't think it is as strong as his earlier albums.
  18. Happy Birthday Randy!
  19. Welcome papsrus!
  20. I lead such a blissful existence, that to long for the times which were noticeably better makes me feel like an ungrateful turd. I have no right to feel anything other than great.
  21. Happy Birthday Baaaaaaaaaaaaaraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!
  22. I'm listening to all my Young-Holt Unlimited stuff right now in Eldee's honor. I'll throw on the Ramsey Lewis joints next.
