  1. I'm a little biased because I've yet to hear a Lee Morgan album I didn't like. My favorites are Search For The New Land, The Gigolo, and Live At The Lighthouse. After that it's just varying shades of greatness.
  2. Man, I dig when the bad ass MFers on these Lee Morgan albums "go through the motions." "Ill Wind" is "going through the motions?" I'll buy The Rajah in whatever reissue I see it in.
  3. BJ's in Burbank makes a mean pie. They're also a microbrewery.
  4. I like it, SS1. The tune "Music To Watch Girls By" is a classic. My favorite Willie Bobo stuff is on the Talkin' Verve compilation, including the tune "Dreams" from Juicy. His versions of "Evil Ways" and "Fried Neckbones & Some Home Fries" are not to be missed. Willie's "Night Walk" is good, but the Joe Torres version is the best one I've heard. Bobo also made some funkier material on Lost And Found and Do What You Want To Do, but I don't think it is as strong as his earlier albums.
  5. Happy Birthday Randy!
  6. Welcome papsrus!
  7. I lead such a blissful existence, that to long for the times which were noticeably better makes me feel like an ungrateful turd. I have no right to feel anything other than great.
  8. Happy Birthday Baaaaaaaaaaaaaraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!
  9. I'm listening to all my Young-Holt Unlimited stuff right now in Eldee's honor. I'll throw on the Ramsey Lewis joints next.
  10. My brother's wife is Lebanese, and works in a restaurant which serves excellent Mediterranean cuisine. If you guys are ever in LA stop by Carnival in Sherman Oaks, just off the 101 North on Woodman. It is frequented by many Jewish and Arab immigrants for its authenticity.
  11. Where bread is concerned, better=fresher. The key is to be in close proximity to the oven in which it is cooked.
  12. I used to know this crazy kid from Glendale who would spend his summer vacations working on Alaskan fishing boats. He was super skinny and sort of gnarly looking, and his friends nicknamed him "Crack."
  13. Damn, send some of that moisture out West. The whole region is kindling and it's triple digits every day in the Valleys.
  14. Another Booby which I enjoy is the live album In The Vanguard, which 32 Jazz reissued. It has a nice version of "Witchcraft."
  15. The big thing that Walton brings to the table is passing ability. The offense hit the skids last year the moment Luke went down with an injury. That said, he isn't the greatest defender and given his bloodline durability is a concern. Luke is renowned for his character and integrity which will hopefully rub off on Kobe. He's a winner.
  16. Are most stars are emitting light of colors our eyes can't see, JLarsen?
  17. UCLA's Aaron Afflalo was drafted by the Pistons, good for him. He can shoot the ball, and Detroit's offense suits his style. I hope he does well.
  18. The Lakers draft wasn't so thrilling. The Chinese PG they drafted is 6'9", that's intriguing. I'm interested to see if Grant Hill will sign with Phoenix. It would be great if they could win a title with him in the mix, he's almost as deserving as Michael Finley was.
  19. "Another biomarker might be a planet's colour. Chlorophyll, the chemical that controls photosynthesis, is green for a reason. It is tuned to the spectrum of the sun in order to absorb sunlight in the most efficient way possible. The reflected green is the light it rejects. That calculation could be made for any star, and the best colour for a chlorophyll equivalent worked out. Perhaps if the exoplanet under investigation were orbiting a dwarf star, the little green men—or, at least the vegetation they eat—might turn out to be orange." That would be a sight, a planet with a completely different set of colors from what we're used to here. Cool.
  20. SS1 and his lady friend take a swim with their newest pets.
  21. Worth it for Inner Glow alone.
  22. Happy Birthday Robert!
  23. The withdrawals were awful! Thanks for the fix, I was starvin' for it Jim!
  24. So fun to watch, just awesome. Thanks for posting it, Jim.
