  1. Boy, ain't that the truth. And, from what I understood from reading the article, this doctor did not do any type of double blind study (or otherwise) himself. He's basically reviewing previous studies and coming to a different conclusion. Or did I not understand that correctly.
  2. I think she stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  3. Congratulations vibes! Enjoy your new vision! LASIK is great for reducing/eliminating the need for glasses for distance. It will not stop the onset of presbyopia (the need for reading glasses after age 40'ish), nor will it stop the onset of cataracts which everyone develops sooner or later. But you have quite a few years before you need to worry about either of those, vibes. One thing I would strongly advise, though, is that you obtain a copy of your eye exam just prior to LASIK as well as the LASIK treatment plan/op report and post op exam. Those measurements will be key years down the road when you eventually do need to have cataract surgery. LASIK dramatically changes the curvature of your cornea and makes calculating the power of implant needed to replace the cataract much, much more difficult. We're finding that as baby boomers are aging and now needing cataract surgery, those who had LASIK in the mid to late 90's don't have access to their old medical records as they are usually destroyed after 7 years. If you can save those in a personal file, your cataract surgeon down the road will be extremely happy.
  4. I guess I'm the conundrum for that earlier-stated theory. I am liberal. I'm going to church today.... and I've got a Sunday morning talk show on right this moment. And I'll probably have a glass of wine later! See... a woman *can* have it all.
  5. I just saw this thread; thanks for the link! While I have seen most of the "Professors" individually, I always seem to just miss them as a group. I'm really enoying this...
  6. I loved her in Square Pegs too, Dan. She has a killer dancer's bod, too. The poll is meaningless but hurtful nonetheless. She is a true rags to riches story and did it pretty much on her own.
  7. my first car-- a used 1976 Vega. Burned oil like, well, a Vega. I totaled it before the engine could burn up. But now that I think about it, either it was unusually sturdy or a guardian angel was riding shotgun because I rolled it after a night of high school revelry. Landed on my wheels and thought I'd just drive it on home hoping nobody would find out. Obviously I was a little in shock, but didn't have a scratch on me. No such thing as wearing seatbelts back then. So it probably wasn't too bad of a purchase. I have a photo of it somewhere. I guess my next car would be the worst purchase ever. It was a 1975 Volkswagen Beetle. Like Shawn's it needed a lot of work. Bugs after 1972 were crap. Although I think it was pretty roll-proof.
  8. Yes! However... I could live with inane weather "news" in Philly because I could just turn it off and go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the next 5 days (and still not see everything!) Inane weather news here just drives home the fact that it's winter.... in Indy.... again...
  9. That's about as bad as our local TV newscasts. The other week the major tease for the 6 o'clock news was: "STARBUCKS CLOSING ALL STORES NATIONWIDE!!!! And then in that voice that says " I know something you don't..." she says "The reason why *may* surprise you!" "HERE ON ACTION 6 NEWS AT 6!!!" (Um... Starbucks was closing their stores at 5:00 PM the following day for a three hour training session....) And, of course, the story right after that was weather guy contemplating " just how much snow we may or may not get depending on if the storm front goes to the north? or the to south? or maybe we just won't get any snow at all...LET'S GO LIVE TO THE D.O.T. SALT STORAGE " That's why I watch Family Guy instead.
  10. pssst.... hey.... Free.... I'm down here... When you're done looking at MG's post.... To My Favorite Trombone Player in the Whole Wide World!! Happy Birthday Paul!!!
  11. First alarm sounds at 5:30 am. I turn on the radio and snooze/listen until my second alarm at 6:00. I snooze/listen until my third alarm at 6:10. At that point I know I have 10 minutes to snooze/listen until I absolutely have to get up at ~ 6:20. I'm out the door at 7:00 to get to work by ~7:30. I usually am up until midnight. I've tried to eliminate two of the three alarms. If I slept through until 6:20 I would feel exhausted and most likely be late for work. Now that we're in DST, I will probably be up until 12:30 or 1am each night. Friday night is crash night.
  12. Happy Birthday!!
  13. Happy Birthday Big Al!!
  14. Happy Birthday Jon!!
  15. Exactly. The term "Smooth Jazz" came into being around the same time as consultants got into the mix (ie Broadcast Architecture). Prior to that most groups such as The Rippingtons, Spyro Gyra, Fourplay, etc were known as "Contemporary Jazz" (regardless of whether that should have been the correct title in the scope of the entire history of jazz). The consultants wanted to provide an automated format that would eliminate on air talent and showcase music that could be 'background' (and therefore a 'listen at work' thing). Consequently, music was given the 15 second test, solos cut if too long, and songs kept to 3-4 minutes. If you wanted your music on "Smooth Jazz" radio, you played by the rules. There was a noticeable difference in the vibe of the music pre 1995 versus post 1995. Older Spyro Gyra, Rippingtons had much more 'edge' to it, for lack of a better term. After the inception of the "Smooth Jazz" radio format the music was repetitive, bland, easy listening... Whether you are a fan of the music or not, there was a definite 'dumbing down' occuring in the mid 1990's, and it was all because of consultants wanting to create a product.
  16. Depends on three things: 1) Do we know she's a woman, 2) Are her ebay offerings obscure enough to get our interest, and 3) Does Chuck get there first... 4) Is she hot? 5) Can she cook and iron?
  17. Happy Birthday!!
  18. Happy Birthday!!
  19. You're lucky I don't know how to use photo shop, otherwise I would have conjured up the image you described. "Hey Moe, you're fired!" no, it's definitely like this:
