  1. I just have to say... I love this board!
  2. Oh Paul, I have no doubt that you will be (and already are) an inspiration to many people with your teaching and your playing. Anybody just needs to hear how beautifully you play to feel that. Another reason I love David Baker so much is because I love the rich history of Crispus Attucks High School in general. David Baker is just one example of the beauty, honor, and good that came from something that was the epitome of ugliness, hate and evil. As he mentioned, Crispus Attucks was created back in the day by the racist, hateful powers that were to 'keep everybody in their place'. Little did the KKK know that this would create a nurturing, creative environment where the students excelled musically, academically and in the sports arena, even though life for a minority in Indiana in those days was filled with racist prejudice and rejection. One of my dearest friend's father graduated from Attucks and went on to become a Tuskegee Airman with several of his classmates--true heroes in spite of the racism that permeated the armed services at that time. It truly was a wonderful high school. Thanks again, David, for such a thoughtful interview. You asked a lot of the same questions I would have (if I could have quit grinning and staring... ) Airman Rayfield Anderson, RIP
  3. Thanks for posting this, David. I *love* David Baker, almost embarrassingly so. We were privileged to have him in the audience with us at the Jazz Kitchen a few weeks ago catching Derrick Gardner and the Jazz Prophets, Derrick Gardner and Rob Dixon being two of his former students at IU. Everybody was showing him the love. It was so great to see him really digging the music, especially Rodney Whitaker's solos. I almost couldn't breathe because he was sitting one table behind us... my heart was pounding.... I had the perfect opportunity to tell him how much I appreciate his music and his passion for music education.... but I couldn't form sentences. So I just grinned and stared.
  4. One winning ticket in Indiana... Drinks are on Ra-Ra
  5. I am so so sorry to hear about Moose's passing. I loved his picture on your profile page, and I completely understand why you would want to change your screen name. His memory will live on; he was like a member of the board! Again, my sincere condolences...
  6. oh, but you *have* had visitors to your profile! Check out the item on the left side that says "profile views" or something like that and it shows the number of profile views you've had. Those who aren't logged in don't show up on the "recent visitors" section. So you've had a lot of guest 'looky-loos'
  7. I'm thinkin' that's a "mummified gif".
  8. rachel likes to keep animated gifs at the ready for just the right time.
  9. Nice.... now I have *that* song looping through my brain...
  10. I meant that Joe knows about the pizza and that view. I didn't mean that he plays in an unappreciated jazz group who plays for people who don't have a clue...
  11. Yeah... you know what I'm talkin' 'bout.
  12. ...so here I am @ Rick's Boatyard eating, what else, but a fancy-schmancy pizza (wood fired, blah blah...) because I've been craving pizza since the start of this thread. I'm usually not a fan of new-fangled pizza concoctions, but I love Rick's New Mexico barbecue pizza which has grilled chicken, barbecue sauce, monterey jack cheese and charred corn salsa (I know Catesta, you're probably gagging right now) on a great flatbread crust. Maybe it's the combination of that and the wonderful draft beer I'm enjoying plus the great music from the under-appreciated jazz combo who are pouring their souls out in their music for a clientele who doesn't have a clue (I'm the only one clapping, but I'm clapping passionately) and the view of the sailboats on the water with the setting sun that makes me love this pizza even more right now...
  13. I agree with that wholeheartedly. And like Catesta, I never got into the deep dish; only way to make pizza is New York style. Sentimental favorite is Nicola's pizza in Rehoboth Beach Delaware, home of the famous Nic-a-boli (sausage, sweet peppers, and extra cheese... )
  14. Hey thanks everybody! Just got back from Ann Arbor where pops and I played last night Tonight we're celebrating my birthday with a concert at The Saugatuck Women's Club.. Ooooohhhhhh yeeeeaaaaahhhh! Whoa! Hope the drinks are on the house, both literally and figuratively (with an emphasis on the FIGURE! )
  15. Happy Birthday Randy!
  16. but is that as good as now with the "sitting at the computer for hours, eating salty snacks, and surfing for porn?" (yeah, we get a lot of mileage outta that one, don't we? )
  17. I'm having rosemary/garlic infused grilled beer can chicken. Which is actually a doggy bag from last night's dinner...
  18. Ah.... you know that I know that trombone players rock.
  19. I think that is my personal statement.
  20. Come on over, I get the real fresh stuff. Since my 4th will probably consist of a nice frozen dinner, let me check Travelocity real quick.
